When I go to join am alliance do I join one that is in my world or do I join any?

Most of the alliances ask about the size of your ap, they will often require an specific size to join with them. I am on a original iPad, before the two came out. I cannot find the size of the ap,,,please help I've looked all over the place.

ap is attack points and you get them by destroying other players units. you can see how many youve gained by going to your profile, it has a total on the left
