There is only one way to describe what Gree is doing here, and that is being GREEdy! They are trying to force some to buy gold and screwing over others like me and my faction mates who play free and are trying to finish off the last boss mission for the faction while competing in war. i think it was just something else they didn't think of. they never overlapped them in testing, or live, and didn't notice.
and / or... the guy who did test them overlapped, knew what would happen, but has been gone for a while and he was the single point of knowledge.
