So I got the official word from Funzio just yesterday, they wrote me,

will automatically have their henchmen instantly transformed into killer vampire ninja zombies. If you have any questions or problems in the future, feel free to contact us here at Funzio, and we hope u continue to enjoy your gaming experience."

I'm pretty positive you receive a henchman each time you complete an area on the map for the 4th time. The fifth and final time you recieve a skill point.
