Gem Price Rip Off - You'll wanna read this...

I think we're being ripped off with the price of the Gems within Kingdom Age. Before anyone comments on the fact - I know you don't have to buy any Gems to play the game.

Here is my evidence to show we're being ripped off...

On the 'Add Funds' Screen you can buy a Handful of Gems (50) for £2.99 or you can buy a Pile of Gems (110) for £6.99 - amongst others.

According to the 'Add Funds' Screen, a Pile of Gems gets you 10% extra but I cannot see where this 10% extra comes from.

If you pay £6.99 for a Pile of Gems you get 110 Gems. The 10% extra is included in the 110 because you don't get any extra once the purchase is completed.

However, if you buy 2x Handful of Gems for £5.98 you'll get 100 Gems, which means that we are being charged £1.01 for the extra 10 Gems if we buy a Pile of Gems instead.

    50 Gems at £2.99 = 5.98p per single Gem.
    110 Gems at £6.99 = 6.35p per single Gem.

The 'Add Funds' screen makes out you're getting 10% extra Gems but you really aren't. In fact you are paying 0.37p extra per single Gem when you buy a Pile of Gems.

This is false advertising in my view, and when I made a complaint with them, they referred me to Apple because they say its a pricing issue with iTunes.

Anyway, below is breakdown of the Gem bundles you can buy and the cost per individual Gem...

Handful of Gems (50) --- £2.99 (5.98p per single Gem)
    Pile of Gems (110) --- 10% Extra --- £6.99 (6.35p per single Gem)
    Bag of Gems (240) --- 20% Extra --- £13.99 (5.83p per single Gem)
    Chest of Gems (650) --- 30% Extra --- £34.99 (5.38p per single Gem)
    Mountain of Gold (1500) --- 50% Extra --- £69.99 (4.67p per single Gem)

What are your thoughts on this? I'm interested to hear them...

Normally a handful is for arguments sake 50 gems for 5. Double that handful into a pile and at the cost of 10, you should get 100 gems. They give you 10 extra, or 10% more. As you go up in tier they give you more for spending more.

That doesn't make sense to me sorry. If you buy 110 Gems you're still getting the worst deal because you're paying more for each single Gem than any other bundle.

    Lets put it another way...

If you buy 5x Pile of Gems (550 Gems Total) you'll pay £34.95 (5x £6.99)

    But

If you buy 11x Handful of Gems (550 Gems Total) you'll pay £32.98 (11x £2.99)

Yet, with the Pile of Gems, you're supposed to get 10% Extra. It's a bizarre pricing structure.

    False advertising = law suit.
Game not running as it is suppose to with no compensation = law suit

    As per ur logic...

    10% of 50 is 5. You get 50 + 5 = 55 55 *2 = 110 gems .... Lol I was going somewhere with this then I lost my chain of thought...

    Oh yeah...

    So 50 is 2.99 , 100 should be 5.98 plus 10 extra gem.

Now the value of the 10 extra gem is 6.99-5.98. = 1.01

So 1 gem is basically 0.1

Again I lost myself... I better sit this one out...

    Yeah.
The 110 Pile of Gems should be £5.98.
£2.99 x2 for 100 Gems with 10 Extra - otherwise you're not actually getting anything extra because they're charging you £1.01 for the extra 10.

Sorry, you might have done some smart shopping, but I don't see any "rip off" here. the prices are clearly marked and you can choose which deal you like best. it is very common for price per unit to differ based on how many units you buy. when you go to the supermarket, you might see milk is $1.00 for a quart or $3.50 for a gallon. is the quart a "rip off" or is the gallon just a better deal?

You're missing the point. The Pile of Gems clearly says 10% extra but you're not getting 10% extra. If you can't see that, I'm concerned for you.

thanks for your concern. let me try to clear it up so you can sleep better. i didnt think it needed to be spelled out because it is not very complicated, but you are confused, so I will try to help you with the math. go look at the handful info and pile info on the add funds screen. 10% extra refers to the extra # of gems you get for a pile vs. a handful. if you look very carefully, you'll notice the prices before the sale in blue, crossed out. a pile is 2x the price of a handful while the # of gems you get is more than 2x. in fact, it is 10% extra. are you following so far? you get 10% extra gems for free, exactly as advertised! now there is a 20% sale. the prices are discounted 20% at each volume level, as advertised! if you are still confused, please post again and I will walk you through the calculations.

Actually, a Pile of Gems is NOT 2x the price of a handful. A handful is £2.99 and a pile is £6.99. You are being charged £1.01 more. I suggest you learn how to add up before trying to be condescending!

PS. If you look at my original post all the prices in the UK have been listed. The Pile of Gems should be £5.98 to get 10% Extra. NOT £6.99!!!

The issue is the prices don't scale the same in each region. In the states you do get what it says but in other currencies you don't despite it still saying the same discount. Same with the sales I get a splash screen saying 20% off but in reality it is 15%. Is it false advertising? Yes do I or amyone care enough to do anything about it to stop it? Probably not.

I do. And have made a complaint about this with the UK agency that investigates this. App developers have had to refund £1000's in the UK recently for similar issues. It will be interesting to see what happens.

    Bag of Gems (240) -- 20% Extra --- £13.99 (5.83p per single Gem)
    Chest of Gems (650) -- 30% Extra --- £34.99 (5.38p per single Gem)
    Mountain of Gold (1500) -- 50% Extra --- £69.99 (4.67p per single Gem)

What are your thoughts on this? I'm interested to hear them...
It really all depends on how you look at it.

Here in the U.S. our prices are:
Handful of Gems (50) -- $4.99 ($.0998 per single Gem or 6.48p per single gem)
Pile of Gems (110) -- 10% Extra -- $9.99($.0908 per single Gem or 5.89p per single gem)
Bag of Gems (240) -- 20% Extra -- $19.99 ($.0833 per single Gem or 5.41p per single gem)
Chest of Gems (650) -- 30% Extra -- $49.99 ($.0769 per single gem or 4.99p per single Gem)
Mountain of Gold (1500) -- 50% Extra -- $99.99 ($.0666 per single Gem or 4.28p per single gem
    )
** I carried the numbers out a bit on the USD conversion just to show more exact numbers. $.01 ~= .65p

    While yours are:
Handful of Gems (50) --- £2.99 (5.98p per single Gem or $.0920 per single gem)
    Pile of Gems (110) --- 10% Extra --- £6.99 (6.35p per single Gem $.1075)
    Bag of Gems (240) --- 20% Extra --- £13.99 (5.83p per single Gem $.0869)
    Chest of Gems (650) --- 30% Extra --- £34.99 (5.38p per single Gem $.0828 )
    Mountain of Gold (1500) --- 50% Extra --- £69.99 (4.67p per single Gem $.0718)

    Price Per Gem (USD)
    My Price / Your Price
.0998 / .0920 (Should be ~.1181 based on other prices)
    .0908 / .1075
    .0833 / .0869
    .0769 / .0828
    .0666 / .0718

So ultimately the price of your gems costs a bit more than I can purchase them for. But that's simply due to conversion, currency, inflation, Itunes, etc.

I will agree with you, the %extra is displayed a little wrong.
But If you look at it another way (ignoring what it costs us both as individuals). You are actually receiving a discount on the gems you are purchasing(in the 50 gem pack). I believe the pricing they gave you was the best they could do to try and keep all the prices at a .99 cost(ie. 2.99, 4.99, 49.99 etc.) As these look better to the customer when making a purchase.

I'm surprised this thread still exists. In US currency there is nothing wrong.
50 gems is $4.99 (when not on sale)
110 gems is $9.99 (when not on sale)

$4.99 + $4.99 = $9.98 and you now have 100 gems. Or you can buy 110 gems for $9.99. $.01 extra actually but you get 10% extra. Anything you see incorrectly priced that's not in USD, is exactly as Gree described. An iTunes issue... Not a Kingdom Age issue!
