A question for the players from the US

As I'm not from the US I've noticed a difference in things like TV programs etc that originate out of the US. I was curious just how the American culture is set up. It seemed ok on US made tv shows to show just about as much gore as you'd like, decapitation, disembowelment etc. forget plain old shooting and stabbing there seems to be almost no limit to the level of gore that can be aired.

On the opposite side the camera pans off to the sky every time a person disrobes or even the hint of any sexual content is brought in.

Is the US kinda stuck in a puritanical era that has never come to an end? I'm not attempting to flame here just to be careful how I word it but it just seemed to me that there is some kind of imbalance.

    Pretty much sums it up

Yep, we can see any form of violence on TV. However if its sexual in nature it tends to be a taboo. So ****, full on sex, nudity (minus the occasional boob shot) are all pretty much on the no no list. However we do have certain stations such as HBO that will allow some frontal. Hopefully i answered your question.

Yeah pretty much that answers it. I was told in the US it's ok to chop off a boob but don't dare to kiss it cause that would get you banned. Always wondered what it took for a nation as a whole to be ok with violence and not ok with much more natural and, I would argue, healthier vices.

I was mostly curious as some members of my faction are US x-military and they speak of graphic violence as casually as the weather, but they don't swear cause there are kids that might be part of our faction.

You seem to be trying to equate the graphic violence that Hollywood throws at our society with where we are morally...as if we should all lack some sense of right and wrong because of what's put on a screen. It just doesn't work that way. The majority of Americans are solid citizens who have a good moral compass in spite of what our entertainment industry thinks is good entertainment. Unfortunately, I believe the violence that is projected has had a direct impact on a few individuals who then deem it ok to act it out in real life. I'm from an area that had a shooting at a Mall not too long ago...the kid doing it was after a thrill; killed 3 then himself. It's a shame that the Hollywood types who seem to take the moral high ground on everything else don't recognize the damage they are doing.

They probably talk about gore not because our society promotes it, but because if they are ex-military members they've been through some tough s**t in their life and what most people describe as gory is no big deal to them because they've lived it. I have never been squeamish or found blood and gore to be bad, its what happens in real life. P.S. Don't judge an entire country of people based off of their television programming

Got to ask why one should not judge a people by what they find entertaining? After all TV/Movies are forms of entertainment. The shows on TV are paid for by sponsors, who hope to have a chance to sell something, by putting on a show that most people want to watch. Movies are made to entertain, and more importantly turn a profit. You don't create a move intentionally that no one wants to pay for the privilege of seeing... If one chooses to watch porn you are often deemed a Pervert, hence the need to watch in in private in many areas. If one chooses to watch graphic murder, and death there is nothing Unusual about that, you are not labeled a killer... Hence why not judge us by what we enjoy? Just be aware that I've yet to find a country where everyone chooses the exact same form of enjoyment...

Got to wonder, a little about what the people enjoy who are reading this post? After all it's ask in a forum dedicated to modern war. One can assume they to enjoy death, as it is hard to have a war without death!

Thankfully I am in a country where I can pick and choose ehat I want to watch(US)
Not all programming is blood and guts.we have comedy's and nature shows, cartoons and cooking shows, westerns and oldies, classics and mystery.the list goes on and on.right now I am watching a sports channel.no blood and guts there and in some countries there is no choice.one watches what the government says you watch.

Now now, lets be honest here shall we? Tell me in your free country if one should happen to watch child porn what exactly happens? You see America is not really free, true you may be able to watch more things, but America still has its Forbidden subjects. In America one also watches what the goverment permits, and if you choose to watch what the goverment forbids you go to jail. Shrug that simple truth applies to much of the world...
