Many of us have seen people who have more than 500 allies listed on their profile. I've seen some as high as 531. For those that may be wondering if that gives them any kind of unit advantage (like I always wondered,) I have proof that it does not.
The other day, I somehow went from 498 allies to 507 despite not requesting any new allies or accepting any ally requests.

Also, when I accepted a pending request, my ally total stayed at 506 instead of going up to 507.
