Snowballs deffence & fake stats?

when some tries to rob you,do snowballs & work as a deffence or are they more of a attacking type feture.
Trying to figure out how a 19000 attack stat broke a deff of 37000+ attack 35000+ lost a few snowballs & lot off other explosives when they did rob me.
Should I be taking thease snowballs as fake stats when calculating my deffence. Only 2 left now anyway however it would be usefull to know if there just fake stats I am seeing when calculating my deffence & my real deffence is - any future gimmick explosives.

Defence building have inflated stats.

If you have a lot of high level def buildings they will inflate your stats, not snowballs.

Snowballs will be used in both attack and defence.

Yes I do have a few high lvl deffence buildings I forgot about that factor.
