What are loot items (equipment) good for ?

I was wondering if somebody knows for what those items are needed or good for. They sometimes drop in PvE but I don't see any use for them.

I'm not 100 percent. But I believe some of them are rewards. Just saying you defeated this enemy to get this. But also I have notice a few I have had to purchase in my lower levels of farming just to attack enemies. I am level 79 and I see most people have the same amount of loot. I myself havent looted anything in a long time. It may be because they stopped adding in loot after a certain point? What I did notice is one loot item I have is something called a filthy pelt. With attack value of 0 and def. of 3. I'm not sure if this loot item adds as an armor or if it just adds 3 to your defense per pelt. But that's the only beneficial one I have found.
