but it might be a data hog LOL
It would never work if gree released a toolkit app

Does anyone know where the data pulled from when updated? Or does the app use some form of API to access the data?

I'll gladly work on a web app to achieve much of what the Toolkit did, if it is at all possible.
If you come up with a solution please let me know! The toolkit is what helped me figure out what buildings I wanted to upgrade next. (yes I could do it manually, but why!) Also loved that it had all my boosts in there to check and see what another iph or attack boost would do for me.

I'm a Software Engineer - if someone can tell me what format the database is in then I'd be happy to take a crack at it. Do we have any others who could collaborate with me on this?

You should create a new thread on this to get more people's attention. I would really like to see a toolkit app that works for MW, i'd pay for it.

Toolkit for Modern War has not been updated in a year.

The Developer is listed as "Khim Soo SOON" @empower.sg
The only email I can find is empowersoon@gmail.com

The .db file seems to be a SQLite database (just because it's in the sqlite directory) and it seems to be encrypted with something (maybe SQLCipher).
I wonder if the toolkit dev got stopped because maybe it wasn't encrypted before but it is now...
I'll check with older version if it was encrypted before or not.

as far as I recall that was the issue, there were some backdoors into the database closed and the toolkit could no longer auto update the db.

    Thanks ju.

The db file header doesn't match the SQLite header so it's either encrypted as you say or it's some other kind of database format. At any rate it could be a very strong reason why development on the toolkit stopped.

Let me know what you find on the old db.

I've got some tricks up my sleeve that I could try. Stay tuned.

Those "backdoors" also had other "unsavory" to some, uses.

The toolkit goes nowhere near the SQL encrypted local .db and the developer is current on sabbatical.

Right, no need for hacking encrypted db files. The code in the About page in the app is the source reference for retrieving all the necessary uptodate information. The question is simply where the code is used. There used to be URLs that would access .plist files based on that data version. Numerous plist files with plaintext content, data tables. All retrievable if you had the code and knew the url. That url has changed recently though, it seems. *shrug*

    Please do not hack anything.
Publicly accessible data is different than trying to decode data or find backdoors to retrieve info you're not supposed to have. Careful of that new code-of-conduct rule! ;P
