i don't quite get it either.. i'm not that far along myself. if someone wants to avoid rat catchers, couldn't they just lower their mafia again? ie change it to 490 instead of 499?

Me either, I've gone past 500 mafia members when I was around level 25. Now I'm 45, and getting my ass kicked from time to time by gold buyers. I'm guessing 500 mafia puts you in the same pool or something?

I just joined the forum recently to see how people are ending up with huge hoods and ridiculous stats at my level. And learned that I need to camp to get my hood up to par, cause it seems I've just leveled up too fast... I'm just working on my 7th expansion, and withdrew all my money I saved up to buy 2 MT... which I think might be a big mistake now after reading more guides...
