Even with 100 stamina I find it can fill when I sleep. 100 stamina with Goodfella is only 4.5 hours recharge. I usually wake up and try to offload a bunch, but my news is stupid useless lately so it's harder to do that while half asleep.
@OP, I agree. Gold makes the tournament effortless for those willing to spend and needlessly difficult for people who have the same/regular amounts of stamina to work with. If no gold were used I wouldn't be surprised if the cutoff at 500 was determined by a single win.

About the recharge for stamina, does 10 gold recharge the full amount of your stamina ? or a bit of it?
10 gold recharges 50 stamina.
I have 115 stam and godfella don't think it has filled since the event started and leveled twice. Just checked the PST clock to work out when the last update was and it just before lunch which would explain why I dropped off since it was just before unloading my stam
