Some statistic:
I opened 100 boxes using cash. This gave 50 openings of which 8 were daimonds for the daily race. The rest were units. Based on this there is most likely 50% for opening with cash and 15 % of the rewards are daimonds. I started the sampling when I already had 7 daimonds. I know they come easier in the begining. Please post your observations
Sorry, I only log in once to twice a day, my observations wouldn't be accurate.
I've been burnt many times on lockbox in the past .. every now and then i forget that i've been burnt and stupidly spend again.
However once it gets to about 10 i would say that the 50% drops further. (maybe 25%) In the past I use to use 5 gold to reset but then do a cash open. Because, I had the same idea as you. but once i hit about 10, cash opens seem to only happen 1 in 3 or 4 .. And the chance of getting the item rather than the unit seems to drop a lot as well.. there are times where i could open 20 boxes and only get units.
I think the last time it cost me about 400 gold to get to 15 items pmsl .. so i guess the guys at the top spend some serious gold

Why? Because he plays this game? That's why most of us are here. Some of us open way more than 100 boxes.
