There is no gold REQUIRED for that.

But with only 4% to start and 1% per upgrade, I'm just as well off to go an extra bit on an LTQ or RBE.

I think you're forgetting people spend gold to complete upgrade levels and judging by the amount of people currently spending gold to upgrade boost buildings at the moment then it would make business sense
