You're talking about people that get 250,000 bonus gold every month it's barely a drop in the bucket for them. Dropping a few thousand gold on an event is nothing for the big dawgs.

How much? Top 50 on average 15k (nowadays) top spot 50k gold ish... Top spot "cheaper" now than in the days of ferr that could go 100k gold plus.
