You just answered your own question there. There can be some other ways too. The fusion boosts from the LTQ really helped me max my maelstrom.

Is there a higher chance of getting newly released epics than old ones? I have gotten maelstrom irons from the maelstrom chest and beastmaster from the beast chest.
