Raiding unit buildings only nets you experience and honor. You do not get any loot from raiding buildings.

Your personal hero can only use hero equipment (or equipment specifically made for your class). All items, including hero equipment, can be used by your army.

Its possible the rivals you have been fighting don't have lockboxes for you to steal or rob...
