I've killed a lot of bosses in KA and in cc now. Ranking does NOT make a difference. As long as you reach the minimum it is completely random what prize you Recieve. Same as epic boss rewards are.

As I said, he may be level one, but then he is a reset. And they don't really count as they have a massive advantage over normal players. Also just adding allies ups your xp and will push you over...
