The quest difficulty on this one is pretty steep so look at it as GREE doing you a favor. You would probably double your level just completing the first piece.

Just don't worry about finishing the quest then. Build the buildings and then upgrade them when you can (even after the event is over). The last LTB event with the Witch's Lair was crazy difficult...

Why don't you try the gold option up until close to the end? I don't use gems at all and have got to ten on several occasions. You may as well give just the gold a try and if it comes down to it...

I would just add that you should always be upgrading a building! Don't wait to save up enough gold for your next expensive upgrade. Get something cheap in the meantime. Good tips though.
