Yea, I have the same problem on my iPad. I think it appeared when WD went live this time, together with the "freeze when attacking rivals"-bug. I don't have any of those problems on my android device.

Yep, freezing when attacking player is back. I also noted that all NPC markers (the arrows) have disappeared from my maps. Both problems only on iOS device, android works fine.

Correction, not everything is dandy. Got a doublestrike in with flashy graphic presentation, and yes, next hit froze leaving me staring at nice moneybuildings I couldn't raid:(

Seems you were correct in your prediction. Now that FL, crate event, and gold sale is over I can attack players again without problems.

I am not using linked accounts, and this happens when I tap-attack a player. No screen comes up. It is more like an infinite lag spike but I can still move the screen.

Simply because folders drop in front of the NPCs you are trying to tap, and get focus instead of your target. Just a bit annoying when your target finally gets out of the crowd, and all your taps hit...

I have a suggestion too. Could possibly folders/crates/cash be put away automatically instead of dropping on the screen? Maybe a visual drop followed by instant removal to inventory.
