I dont think using gold on buildings has any advantage. Usually gold items just cant be destroyed, and buildings in general cant be destroyed, they are just robbed.

Same boat here... they should really have an option to choose your country later as you get a feel for the game. But I guess the fix can be solved with 50 gold :(
