You're there to block not to catch the damn ball!
Soooo......
What about those deflated balls?
I think it cheating, and they finally got caught, again.
The Patriots should be out of the Super Bowl and fined $500K/squishy ball.
You can't kick them out of the superbowl. It happened. They won. You can't undo a game even if it could be proven that the cheating directly affected the outcome. Belichick could have walked onto the field and put a bullet in Andrew Luck's head and the result of the game would stand.
That said, yes it's cheating, no way Belichick didn't know about it (although Tom Brady probably had more to do with it), and I hope they get penalized a few really good draft picks. It's got to be tough enough to make the next team think the penalty for getting caught isn't worth the benefit of gaining an advantage in the championship game and getting to the Superbowl. If it can be shown that Belichick or Brady were directly involved, I suspect they could also be suspended for at least a portion of next season.
There's no penalty for cheating that anyone on the field cares about. A few draft picks? A fine? Who cares, we're going to the big game!
They should have to replay the game, regardless of how badly one team was blown out, and teams should never have been supplying their own balls to start with. That should be the league's responsibility. Every game, between every team, should be played with a standard, regulated, inspected set of game balls that neither team is allowed to touch until they are standing on the field of play.
I disagree about brand new balls... Let them be broken in, but they should be held by the refs after inspection.
