--MODERN WAR UNPLAYABLE WITHOUT FORUM--

After two and a half years of playing this game, it had become obvious that without this forum, the game would have died a long time ago. Without reports of the glitches, hacks, and service issues, the players would have simply deleted the game and walked away.

But more...in order for the players to decide whether to plunk down their resources, the content creators of walkthroughs and other data collections have given the players that vital piece of information on whether to forge forward, or call it a day. Without this information on events, it is very doubtful that players would continue to invest their resources on an uncertain outcome.

To the walkthrough creators: I SALUTE YOU.

Your contributions to the gaming community are incredible, and have kept the lights on for this operation.

What I find more amazing are the missed opportunities that could have been capitalized on by the developers: fore example, the 3rd party software. If this speaks to anything it is that the players absolutely hate not knowing what is going on. Nearly all of the third party software deals with giving players more information to be efficient with their resource spending (Toolkit/docbot/outside chat apps).

The bottom line: we scream for more information, and the profitability of the game goes out the door without it. Most honest transactions require some information about the risk and reward, and without it, a rational person will not throw their resources down a hole (notice I said rational person...no accounting for the insanity of top-10 pissing contests [which are dying out btw...]).

Bottom line: the developers owe the content creators a debt of gratitude for continued playability and the vital information that is so cleverly concealed with checklists, tiered events, and downright deceptive splash screens and completion benchmarks. Without the content creators clearing the smokescreen in this forum, frustration with the design would have killed the game months, if not years ago. The forum controls the game, and it is about time that this gets recognized. Long live the power of the forum.

I completely agree bud, all hail the walkthrough creators!!

Even people who don't directly contribute to the forum can still come here and get some much needed help. Who would pay to win events if there is no incentive other than random splashscreens?

This game is on life support, thank the forum for paying the bills!

Well documented and most accurate description.

If only the people from Gree Japan headquarters understood English and read the forum, they would've gotten rid of the current MW management and content development team.

Such a loyal customer base and they don't know how to treat them properly and with respect! Take us for granted at your own peril!

Robespierre, I salute you for putting it so clear and concise!! And I agree for 200% !!
The commitment and efforts of people like Danimal, LarryJackson and many more are indeed the lifeline for MW. I would rather like to pay them than GREE ;)
It's unbelievable GREE doesn't see this and act. Maybe a boycott by Danimal and LarryJackson et all would be much more effective than any so-called boycot before and make GREE realize how important it is to give full, accurate and timely info about all the events !!

To play devil's advocate, not saying I agree with any of it as I don't, but - why should gree post the information when they have a team of willing serfs, nay, willing slaves, eager to pay for the privilege of keeping the forums up to date with information?
-
They don't need to waste time and money putting out information on the forums when players will not only do it for free, they will pay gold and effort in the first place, through trial and error, to complete the events to gain the information and post it.
-
All Gree has to do is employ one person to "mod" the forums and boot the occassional member who hasn't read the 2.3pt fine print of the TOS.
-
Therein lies the great irony of the forums.

This posting makes a great point about the deficiencies.

Special thanks to Danimal and LarryJackson and others who continuously contribute to give us much needed information that GREEdy should have been giving to its players in the first place.

Mad respect for all the walk-through creators, you are absolutely right. I would not be playing right now if it wasn't for all the intel published on this forum.
You all deserve every cent and more of what these slackers at gree are getting paid.

Thanks to all the walkthroughs and info posted here, I use a lot less gold, that's for sure. So I can't thank all you info posters enough, thank you again, sorry GREE.

Greetings, Robespierre:

Thank you for sharing an intelligent, thoughtful, and humorous post.
I only offer one contradiction to your well versed thoughts.
According to the Gree officials monitoring and controling this forum, fewer than 5% of MW tappers use the site.
I'll be generous and bump the 5% of all MW tappers to 20% of the game's tappers.
Its those 20%, however, that spend the majority of money for in-game purchases, investing enormous amounts of their time playing, tapping, and planning this "game".
In my humble opinion, this is indicative of the "80/20 rule" (or the "5-95 rule" LOL), meaning, the small majority of tappers (compared to the larger group of players) finds this site useful.
Why?
They are simply more interested and invested than the larger group of "players".
Another way to view it is, the forum users for the most part are "professional tappers", along with a few observers and trolls to spice things up a bit.
The "amateur players" just don't care about this pixel, that pixel or that event.
They see this as a game, a respite for a few minutes every now and then.
Its like our little group of characters.
We don't DEW NUTTIN, and find the chaos, angst, and chatter here much more amusing than the game.
We've all learned many "moons" ago that none of this matters.
We don't care who hits our pixels, and we don't DEW NO events. LOL
What we DEW DEW, is plenty of NUTTIN. LMFAO
Anyway, thanks for sharing.
On a personal note, oddly enough, we agree far more often than not.
Have yourself a splendid summer week, sir.

On the other hand, your point oif view is also on point.
I've long ago stopped wondering why the "true believers" press on, harder each month.
There are some things that get people agitated and angered very, very quickly.
I will stop now, as I'm getting too close to the flames.

It might only be 5% of players check here in forum but than that 5% takes it the faction and a friend in that faction gives it to a friend in another faction and spreads very fast

I appreciate the sentiment.

And I would gladly accept your money haha. Unfortunately, it is against TOS for me to solicit donations via PayPal on the forums. If you would really like to show your appreciation, access my Googledocs LTQ sheets though the links I provide - instruction within ;)

---
A walkthrough boycott, I'm afraid, would be an exercise in futility. In the end, it would only hurt the players. It would go the way of the infamous gold boycotts; only a small group would be invested in seeing it through, others would rise up to do the walkthroughs, the events would still cause the gold to flow, and the action would not be great enough to force Gree's hand.
Most importantly, a boycott would hurt the players. That, I am not interested in witnessing or having a hand in. We get small victories here & there. All we can do for now is continue to ask... politely. Flaming, yelling and trolling isn't going to get anyone a think.

Robespierre -
I think we often mis-understand Gree's goal. They want to maximize revenue and profit. Not fairness, not sense of rationality, etc. Look at their basic manipulation of human behavior:

Checklist after checklist after checklist
"Awards" for completing goals that just unlock more checklists ("Prestige" mode??)
Distractions with shiny little baubles (tokens? medals? points?) reminds me of giving stickers to my 3yr old kids!
Leaderboard after leaderboard (who does most damage, most folders, most crates, most tokens, WD ranking, Frontline ranking, individual ranking, most ...)
Fallacy of sunk costs - "i've invested so much in this LTQ/Crate/Masters/T50 pursuit, I have to finish it"

You talk about rational behavior, but most humans are actually very bad at rational behavior - think of slot machines, lotteries, texting and driving, over eating, and so many other behaviors. We are good at reacting to immediate stimuli, bad at learning from things that take a long time.

Gree has proven that the players are *not* good at thinking rationally, because we do in fact still play, and still spend $$ on all of these events. We fall for their tricks.
If Gree told us up front that it was a 0.01% of opening that final #25 crate, and you need to open 100 of them on average and the cost is actually 1500 gold or $100 for that 1 single unit, how many people who do it?
If Gree showed "true" progress in a LTQ (hmm, 20/20 is actually 25% of total energy?, i'm only 75% of the way done?) or Raid boss (We've finished 27/29 of Masters! Yay, now we are only 50% of the way through the damage required to complete it!! Oh no, 50% left!!) how many players would keep slogging away vs. just saying enough is enough?

By hiding these true odds and costs and requirements they fool us in to over spending.

07-14-2014, 07:56 AM
^wow. If Gree showed the true progress point instead of filling us and saying there isn't much left like 28/29, they would be out alot of money because the majority of top 25 and lower teams would not complete them. I wouldn't that's for sure.

Be nice.

Goober put it well. From a business perspective, it would be advantageous for Gree to NOT tell us these things. An example would be how the LTQs are very easy on normal, then prestige seems easy as well, but the last few levels are the gold traps, at which point we look at the investment we've already made and chase it.
If we knew it ahead of time (Where myself & Larry come in), would we really spend the money to complete it?
It would be a big revenue loss for Gree. I don't expect them to release any info... that's where some of us players come in to document it and help the rest of the community

Then.... how about this for a drastic concept.
-
Instead of putting each and every event out of reach of the great majority of the players, so much so that any advertsising just how far out of reach it is would cause sales to plummet, except for the uber-rich extreme few who plough in and spend like fiends giving a falso indication of desirability of events that need people to spend like fiends, how about, and call me a wildly dreaming fool for even bringing it up, but just how about putting each and every event only a TINY amount out of reach of the majority of players so EVERYONE is tempted to spend just a little to complete it?
-
Instead of constant high-margin low-violume as a sales model, give the opposite a try - high-volume low-margin.
-
Then advertising the events becomes a great tool to engage enthusiasm and get the saliva dripping ready to attack the event and get that goal, spending the little amount of real cash that will get you the icing on the cake.
-
I wonder which would be the most sustainable as a business model?
-
Even casinos realise that while whales are good, they don't pay the bills - it's dangling the carrots of riches in front of the plebs getting them to spend their dimes in record volumes that makes the huge profits - why else do casino floors no longer have only tables but are wall to wall slot machines? High volume, low margin, huge profits.
