View Full Version : Balancing the game for new players

Hi Gree, how are new players going to be able to compete when you have the following structural problems?
1. No individual health regen bonuses/units making it very difficult to complete EB and RB
2. Limited time boost buildings which further acerbates the stat gap between old players who have built it in the past vs. those who have never seen it before
3. Incredible difficulty in completing LTQ/GLTQ. Have you seen the energy costs and damage required?
4. Building time and cost discounts and multiple building upgrades which old players have. Completing an LTB quest is already hard enough when new players need to build up their IPH.

There could be more but I am not starting class warfare. Just highlighting that it is to no one’s advantage when you stifle off new entrants into the game. Or maybe, this game is already dead.

You can only take part in this game as new player with joining a good guild with, in which they allow you to 'camp' a bit. No other way to keep up otherwise

I will not say ka is dead, they have made some staffing changes, and things look to be moving in the right direction.
One way to help with this would be have beginners quests(ltq's) not show for all set them to be level specific, lvl 1-100 and hen they are gone.
Buildings can come around again...there's nothing to say they would not offer them again, easy way to do it, if one has the building already the new one produces gold not a boost. If it's the first time built it's a boost building.
Energy consumption is a problem for all, I feel they should raise the rate it regens at. But refills do cost gems...so doubt this. Also with beginners quests only open up to a specific level this would not be that bad for lower level players.
Units are rewards...there is no way to address this. Takes time to get them bonuses, and in any game time is the only way one can build.

You are soooo correct: the problem was exhausting players in high guilds created killer minis before gree adjusted the epic boss health . Remember , when minis first started , older "free" players complained ( I was one ) that these new minis with 5 mil attack were flying through the epic boss and getting the level 100 prize plus the guild prizes too. There are still tons of players under level 100 that are 20 mil+attack and just breeze through skit of the game . They have trouble with the LTQ's since most don't have the high weapons or enough skill points to make a huge difference . Plus you can not be a free player now if u are new and not in these guilds . I tried a mini- he was 3.5 mil attack at level 46 but only had a 40 attack sword - he was basically useless so I retired him

Gree give us these "beginner" quests that really aren't beginner quests. The current structure is such that they are "easier" than normal but the units are terrible and the XP is brutal. Based on the current structure of them, they are only truly designed to increase your level why not adding much in the way of stats. As it stands right now, I don't know why most guilds and individuals do any of these quests because they really are only gaining XP since most can't use the unit since the stats are so poor.

If it's possible, it would be great to have a cap level for beginner missions (say level 50). Reduce the hit points on each level along with the amount of XP for completing a level and then increase the stats on the units awarded.

once boosts were introduced into the game; any semblance of balance was lost forever

My 30M+ mini's were useless during the last war for CPs thanks to the last def boost LTB. They used to get great CPs but were reduced to wall hitters: no HLP targets anymore. I was happy to retire them and delete the app b/c I won't buy gems to keep inflating their stats, no point.

The only new accts to the game will be recycled from older players making trash mini's on a reset spare phone for EB GLTQs.

GREE made the game too imbalanced for new players to compete imo.

I'm not a beginner, and have been playing for almost 5 years. Well before the era of guilds. I am still waiting for an opportunity to upgrade multiple buildings at once. This is very important for new players and old alike that have not had the opportunity to earn this ability.
It wasn't as big of a deal prior to the LTB, but now it is very important to even have a chance at completing the LTB and upgrading money buildings to afford future LTB.
Make it a reward for guilds 400 and up in wars.

My main can upgrade 5 at a time but my mini only 1.
How about for war, instead of the stupid honor/gold raid payout bonuses bring back the upgrade bonus.

Or a building that enabled more than one to upgrade at a time. They could add in a new mill for this.

I believe I started playing mid 2009, to early 2010
The only quests were the regular map quests.
2012 is roughly when guilds were introduced to the game, which changed the game forever

It might feel like almost 5 years, but KA was released in March 2012... a bit earlier in Canada.
(Crime City was Funzio's first game app, launched in July 2011.)

I too would love to be able to upgrade more than one building at a time. Since the new LTB came out, I have not been able to upgrade any money buildings hardly. Possibly keep the LTB upgrade separate from regular upgrades on buildings, so we can at least upgrade a money building at the same time.

This is a cool idea. Giving new players an unique experience for when they're first starting and getting to the know the game.

Thanks all for the suggestions and feedback.

Well I guess I was wrong. April 2012 was the release. I always thought I had been playing since I got my first iPod.
Regardless I still want the opportunity to upgrade multiple buildings at once.

...I still want the opportunity to upgrade multiple buildings at once.

Most everybody in the Top 300 can upgrade 3 (it was a Top 300 war reward several wars ago).... and most players have everything upgraded by now. It's kind of over-rated: once you've upgraded all you can or want to upgrade, the ability becomes worthless.
Only 2 LTBs come out each cycle and those are usually too expensive to update both at the same time; only 1 is needed for the quest rewards anyway.

But, I know what you mean: when you can't upgrade several buildings at a time, you want to! You'll eventually get to the point where you won't care to upgrade anything if you keep playing long enough :)

If you do make this for beginners, don't kill it with loaded XP and make the units significant and not ten units under 1/1k and a final unit of 5/5k. If you want balance then truly make these units worth doing missions.

My newer players discuss the need for better weapons. A quest to earn decent weapons would be great.

There are weapons that can be purchased with honor. For a new player it would take some time to get 1.5m in honor for a 90/90 weapon.
