Try uninstall and reinstall
Try a soft reset (to the iOS device)
If that doesn't help try a hard reset (to the iOS device)

Sounds like your virtual Memory is in high use. Hence the data usages being high.

Yeah happens to my iPod touch 4th gen. With my iPad I get about 15min before a crash
