View Full Version : Extreme Data Issues From GREE's Server for 3G Users!

• EDIT (July 2nd) - Seems they flipped a magical switch. After a 3 minute session, I had used 1.4 mb of data. No clue what they did, as they claimed for quite some time we were waiting on an app update in the iTunes Store, but at least it's finally fixed. Thank god.

• EDIT - Ensure that if you have to use it on a 3G connection, that once done you terminate the application. Otherwise, it will continue to run in the background and still suck up your data. END EDIT •

There's already threads on this, but I'm going to go ahead and make another one, as it's ****ing important, considering a lot of people are on limited data plans and are getting surprised when they see that they've used Gigs of data in days.

The anti-cheating and anti-glitching methods you have put into place are destroying the data usage for 3G users. I've talked to a few 4G folks and they claim that they are not noticing too much of a difference, but I've only been talking with guild members about this issue. In a 1 minute session, I sent 10 kb, but received 4.5 Mb of data. What this means is that for KA right now, the repeated pings you are sending our clients is literally running us at .25 Gigs / Hour of play on a 3G network. Add in the fact that it seems even when the app is in the background the data count is still running up, you have a serious ****ing issue.

While we all understand your desire to get rid of the glitches and work-arounds players have come up with, find another way, and quick. I cannot afford to open KA when I am not tethered to a Wi-Fi connection, which means that come wartime, you'll be losing a lot of revenue from folks who share the same situation I now find myself in.

Also, saying "Oh, we're working on it, but we need screenshots" is downright ridiculous. You all should be testing this game, you've been told about the issue as well as the conditions, so you should be able to replicate it. That is part of the reason the employees at GREE are being paid for, correct? Quality Control and Testing? 3G Network Devices, Your App, Extreme Data Usage on the receiving end. Over 100x the data being sent is being received. There, you have your test parameters, it only took me five minutes to determine the issue with one device, I don't see why a few techs can't use their own phones and some devices you all use to test the game to replicate the issue as well so you can pin it down and fix it. We [the players] are not meant to test for you. That's your job. Please, for the love of everything that is holy and green and welcomed as tender across the world, do it.

For a comparison, 1 hour of Kingdom Age is using more data than Skype, GroupMe, LINE, Pandora, and Safari combined in the same timeframe. There's an extreme issue there.

Also, will you fix that ******* in-game transfer system already? I don't trust any of your Customer Service folks to transfer my account.

Another update. This was just me opening the application to open another Crystal Container and collecting 6 buildings that had come up. I didn't even go to the vault. About one minute passed, and this is the results I had from my statistics page.

Received - 10.6 MB

It's an issue on your end. Fix it.

I will say thank you, it is a very big issue, as a lot of us play on our cell connections, and have limited gigs to use.

I would like to chime in as well. I was surprised that I used ALL my allotted 5GB of data on my iPad in 3 weeks. I usually only use 3GB in a month. Kingdom Age ALONE is responsible for 2.9GB of data in 3 weeks! Ridiculous! Right now I have about a week before my next cycle and I'm throttled to a painfully slow 15kb/s because of this.

Problem still happening. Just to open KA, open box, collect buildings and exit KA uses about 10MB. So, you will use up a full 1GB of data just to do these few simple steps about 100x. If this is not solved by the start of the war, many players will not be able to play on mobile data but only on Wifi when at home or at McDonalds, etc. IT WILL KILL THIS WEEKEND'S WAR. THIS NEEDS TO BE SOLVED QUICKLY.

I just switched to a new iPhone and already found out my data use was increased pretty much. I thought because i was playing with my new phone a lot, but reading this thread and checking my phone: it's KA that uses 90% of my date. What the... As stated before, this is a serious issue Gree!

Maybe if you open a ticket from your device on this issue, they might do something along those lines. As it dose effect only a portion of us(maybe 50%) as the rest use wifi.

LOL, I play all day every day on my iphone and my phone bill will be double it's normal cost. I sure hope you are going to fix this and put the mountain of gems we could have bought with the $$ back in our accounts. Or was that what the little crappy 2 potions was for?

Now i understand why my battery would drain so quickly. Had to make sure the phone was fully charged before heading home. It would also explain why my phone would get hot so quickly.

Wow, this enhancement to fix a bug, definitely caused a much bigger problem for the entire user community.

With all the proformence tools available from apple development to game programmers, should be easy to track down, more so with all the support tickets you also received. I realize this has come about while attempting to secure the game,but there must be a different way to do it.
Would be great if we could get a update on this issue.

As of last night it was not fixed. Ka is using more data than Netflix dose on my device.
Doubled my data plan for war this weekend. Was cheaper than going into overage..and we are one week into my new month.

War has now started and one 4 x attack cost me 43.4MB.

I am now left in the situation that i can now only participate in the war when i am on WIFI and as I work 12hr night shifts i am not going to be able to participate much.

Thanks. Definitely not enough info, but it is a start, Tadaaah. Luckily this war is already a joke with the massive amount of CP % boost potions some farmed, and we've yet to see the hackers, but there are a lot out there with something like 20k potions on them. Means I can feel okay about not checking the progress every 10 minutes like I usually do and just get my hourly hits done while on a 3G connection. Load times are also insane, might be because of this issue as well. Taking nearly a minute to load the game now.

We would really love some compensation for this issue as well. I'm on my 7th day of my Tablet's prepaid data plan, and I've already use 1850 Mb of the 6600 Mb I get. It's killing our wallets, and if you'd pass it on that a 50 Gem item is not nearly enough, as some folks have had their overage costs shoot them in the foot and the wallet. Considering I pay $50 for 6 Gigs, and Kingdom Age has eaten almost 1/3 of that in 6 days now, I'd like to see the compensation scale to the actual dollar cost we've incurred from this mess.

This is GREE speak for "Maybe before the next war". Until they get the update together, submit it Apple, then deploy....3 weeks minimum.

Gree is now causing players to spend money that isn't going into their pocket. Guess I will have to reduce funds from my gem budget just so I can access the game. Brilliant!

Between 2 devices on KA and Kakao the chat app we use I am at 15 gigs of data for the month. Trying to play on satellite wifi only now and it sucks. I'll hang around to see if the next update fixes the issue. If not I can't afford to play anymore.

I'm playing on an iPad 3 which is 4G. In 2 days after my monthly data plan began, I received a pop up from Verizon saying I had only 2% data remaining for the next 28 days. My plan is 4 gigs a month.

I was on my work travels to Perth recently n had used the hotel's wifi to access mainly Gree games. Was charged abt AUS75 for abt 2GB data used within 24hrs.

It's now over 3 days later and still nothing from Gree other than the non-commital answer above.

When are we going to get some details of the 'upcoming' fix - ie when it is going to be released?

If Gree are going to do nothing about it, how about having the balls to come out and just just tell us to live with it so we - as the consumers - can make our own informed decision whether to continue playing KA or MW or not?

This morning I received an email notification from my isp that you killed my 30gb plan for the month in 10 days! And just now I received a text notification from my cell carrier that you ate my 1gb data plan for the forth time over.
Your apps open and in the background have used over 34GB of data in less than TWO WEEKS! FIX IT!!!

The most irritating part of all this is with all your data consumption, I can't get the latest data-set to download on 3 separate devices! I would really like to contribute to my guild's EB quests. Tried the normal gree trouble shooting method of close/re-open x50, force close/re-open x50, delete/re-install x10. Nothing...

Thank you, it's starting to add up now, data plan used up from war, now 5$ per 100meg. And I know some people are paying more.
Yes I realize we could have simply not played, but a lot of us made commitments to guilds, and could not break them.
Given all the troubles over this any possibility of getting gems to compensate? Even if we have to open a support ticket and submit prof we use cell data?

no **** ... im already at 16 GB ... my plan is 4gb ... do the match Tadaaah ... i wont be spending a dime or logging in KA unless on WiFi until they fix this **** ... its ridiculous

So they already released a fix for crime city, posted an update in MW that at least the patch was coming soon( what's that mean?) and still nothing today in KA, guess we know where we stand in GREE hierarchy.

Thanks for the head's up. You shoul really tell them that this issue is large enough to warrant its own data push instead of waiting for a major update. It's been going on ~14 days now that people can tell, and data usage for some has ranged all over the place, none of the numbers good. I've already burned 4.5 gigs in 11 days, and that's ussing it sparingly. Say one person who had burned through 50 Gigs in the same period, and the apps were just in the background, not even active.

So, yeah. Would love for you to tell the KA team we need it asap, and not to sit on it until a major content one comes out, even if it is just a one or two day delay. It's too important to sit on.

Tadaadah - for heaven's sake. Most players don't have constant access to Wifi and rely on 3G to access the game when away from home. At the same time their plans only allow for limited amounts of data, otherwise there are very costly fees for the excess data usage. This should be obvious to GREE, especially if it is trying to cater to players around the globe.

THIS IS A PRIORITY ISSUE - PLEASE TELL YOUR PROGRAMMERS TO ROLL OUT A FIX NOW INSTEAD OF WAITING FOR THE NEXT MAJOR UPDATE. JUST BECAUSE IT AFFECTS YOUR PLAYERS' POCKETS INSTEAD OF GREE'S DOES NOT MEAN GREE CAN TREAT THIS AS A SECONDARY ISSUE. THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!!! :mad:

Of late, I haven't been accessing the game outside of areas with no WiFi.

The data usage is killing me. If nothing is done soon, my guild mates are gonna do the same as well.

I posted this on the other forums, so I will here as well.

OK, resetting data this billing month in my phone, and going back to playing the games normally as I do, which is usually collecting all my buildings, doing whatever LTE there is until my energy bar is gone, then banking my cash and logging out, here is where my data usage for this month is do far (may data month coincides with the CC 5.2 update, conveniently):

Crime City = 5.6mb
Modern War = 72.6mb
Kingdom Age = 44.5mb
Beyond the Dead = 45.6mb

Looks like whatever the fix for data use worked in spades on my ios system for CC. I hope the fix is as good for the rest of the games.

Well my billing date for my hotspot was 7 days ago and guess what, I am already at 1.5 gigabytes out of 2 gigabytes I pay for each month. Never have I come close to this maximum let alone in 7 days. The total days used on my hotspot was 4 out of the 7 and that was not all day. I agree with all the members on here that it must be pushed and not wait for the next update!!!! The issues Gree has in continuing to alienate their customers is down right disgraceful. Are you going to reimburse everyone that goes over their data usage, of course not, will you show some type of responsibility? Maybe but I can tell you that 100 gems does not satisfy the issues. We like the game which is why we play it, but your team at Gree needs to wake up and listen to what your customers are asking for. Thankfully I have unlimited data on 1 of 6 accounts so I guess I do not need to worry on the 1 account come war weekend. Unfortunately the other 6 will be standing by until my new billing cycle comes through in JULY.

Also one member posted about the in game transfer being fixed, this is something every member has asked for in nearly a year when it stopped working, any update on that? Please don't say the response we will send it to our developers as we have seen this many times before about this issue.

Tadaaah, sorry to take this out on you, but you unfortunately are the only responding and seems to be the only one that gives a damn!

Gree you still have not addressed this issue. You have not even properly informed and warned gamers through the game that they may be incurring ridiculous charges simply by logging in, changes that quite a few will not be able to afford.

You have a duty of care to your customers, and it is your responsibility to update users and recompense where necessary.

I myself have just been hit for nearly ten gig of 3G usage in two weeks! purely from KingdomAge.

The blame for this lies solely with you Gree. What are you doing and how will you recompense those affected by your blunders.

Any updates for us Tadaaah? This has gone way beyond a serious issue to a complete business killer.

Update: I received a Paper letter from my ISP today stating that I am being investigated for illegal online activity. We're not talking local law enforcement here.

I had to lol to myself because when they trace the reason for all the data usage and find its source, guess who they'll be looking at after all the wtf ???'s come up...
Wish it was true. But no they are looking at weather you are running a online server and uploading movies or music from your device.

Ok we get it, worry about the events getting fixed because you lose money if they are not working! Don't fix the data usage issue because it is our money. Great concept Gree! No update to us means many users are using their devices away from wifi much less. In the business world that means it affects Gree income, not sure if you were aware of this or not. Wanted to make sure you were aware so maybe we would have a freaking update and fix on this issue by now.....after all it has taken 2 weeks to this point without a fix.

My 3G is now blocked due to going over on my data plan Not good, my data plan is also how my phone works on my pad. Blocked data=blocked phone,:(
Can't increase it till Monday, so I had no phone at work, and working security this was a huge problem.
The no warning on cutting it off was my ISP, but the resion for the overage was directly gree and kingdom age.

Gree when is there a fix for this issue, there are thousands of people affected by KA using too much data. Most people who are affected by your total f*** up probably haven't even had their usage bill yet.
When will there be a fix? It's past time you gave us some information.

I urge everyone affected by this issue to inform iTunes that the apps that are being operated by Gree are costing a fortune in data to run, and no warning has been issued about using them.

Almost one years worth of 3G data usage in just under three weeks. Absolutely ridiculous!!

Well that will teach me !! just got my phone bill and now have an additional $122.00 for excess data usage , as my plan only has 1.5 Gig of data this has blown out from the use on Kingdom Age...and i wasnt even using every day !! just log on collect do upgrade grab some orbs and off again !
What is Gree going to do about this ?
Not that im a regular player anymore...just read Max Power post ! Gree need to seriously look at this as NUMBER 1 URGENT...seems players are leaving by the droves !
So will Gree compensate me for my $122 AUS ???

It's even more amazing how someone can post something dripping with that much condescension. When the plan runs out it runs out. Some people have safeguards in place that will shut the service off when it has reached the plan limits. Others will simply be charged overages. Either way it goes it's a serious legitimate issue that needs to be resolved that was mentioned 3 weeks ago and still has not been resolved. I appreciate you being part of the solution in whatever way that you feel you're being useful.......

You say we knew, not so. I haven't logged in on my 3G since this became apparent on my data usage( telus told me as it had jumped)before this thread was started, But by then the damage was done. Still needed to use my device tho for work and so forth, so I had no choice but to go over. But what caused the problems ka and gree.
You have no clue on people's billing cycles.
I would agree if the person starts a new billing cycle and still logs in knowing about the issue, then complains about it. But it's sill a huge issue that needs to be fixed.

Pull up a lawn chair and a six-pack (well, more like a few of them) and we can listen to the serenade of crickets as we await word from GREE as to the status of this issue. I say this because my device has barely been used since this issue cropped up, even though it means that I'm falling behind as LTQs I'd normally complete are just being let down like my self-esteem after looking at the credit card bills and finding all charges made to GREE via iTunes.

Interesting thread. Reading all 7 pages makes me wonder how big is the "data set" that we are required to download. Maybe its forcing us to download everytime we login even though we've downloaded it, hence the data issue. If the data set is 50mb, logging in 10x would mean we've downloaded 500mb worth of data. I might be wrong though

Just a little over 12 hours until the SECOND war with these data issues. Need an ETA, I'm not spending Gigs and Gigs of data to log in and score points, meaning you're not getting gems from me. I'm not the only one, either.

Need a hard date. Or a close estimate. Soon is useless, it's like claiming you're close to something, and we all know how that saying goes. So, yeah, need an actual date, or something close to it. Please.

Another week is gone and still the real fix is going to be "SOON". Wait for it! That should calm the natives! After all only 7 posts regarding this issue in the last week since we received that famous Gree Slogan, Soon, not now, not later, not when needed, but SOON!!!! I know our definition of SOON, but I guess Gree has a different definition such as whenever we get around to it!!!!! What a joke!!!!

WOW! This is the first I've been on this forum for a while. I thought it was a glitch in my phone.... $200 later, I find out the truth. Makes total sense for me now... Has there been any fix? Time to send in the next plea for support from GREE.. Makes war on the go impossible as I tether my iPad to my phone often 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡💥🌹

Glad I stumbled upon this. I wondered how I used 3gb in 2 weeks. Looking forward to a fix as I am not on an unlimited data plan.

GREE; you were quick enough to bang on about working on a fix. Any idea when that might be please? My data plan is at 40GB per month, with an average usage of 3GB. For June, I'm over quota and being charged. Surely, you must have some idea? This month? This year?

We are aware that the issue has 'been located.' The problem is that we were told the fix would be via an update in the Apple iTunes Store, and we haven't gotten said update. Clarification would be nice, Tadaaah. Thanks.

Well, I'm glad that it's fixed. I'm also quite a bit peeved that it took this long for them to realize that, especially since CC and MW got the fix something like 2-3 weeks before we did.

Still, thanks for relaying the information. I know the action itself is most likely something you did not have any control of, and I'm certain we're all thankful it's finally fixed.

I did. Otherwise my reply to Tadaaah would have been much different. In a 3 minute session, I had maybe 100 kb of data sent and only 1.4 mb received. Used to be 3 minutes was almost 50 mb, so I'd definitely say that the problem was indeed fixed.


Has any1 tested it to see if the problem is fixed?

It seems to be fixed! Thx, but I wish it could have been done sooner! I just relogged, refreshed, attacked a rival, and killed a boss. Refreshed leader list in box event and loaded guild chat over and over .. Did every thing I know to do in game for about 5min. Data stayed at 1.066 of 5.120 (MB) after all that ��

Just tested it. The good news is that data usage has been reduced. The bad news is that it still seems high compared to other games. So, do keep an eye out if you have an account with say, 2GB of free data usage per month. My estimate is that KA could still easily use that much up on its own, especially if you just leave the app running (even without doing anything in particular).

I shall refrain from commenting about how long this 'fix' has taken ... the previous posts speak volumes.

This problem is not repaired, I've consumed 1.5 gig so 3G data in one day!!!

Gree get this issue sorted please it's costing users a lot of money.

Checked my consumption for the current month. It is less than 60MB, so for me at least the issue is fixed.

The data consumption for Kingdom Age is a monster. After 3 crashes due to bad connections KA uses 3 GB Data transfer volume for WIFI. LTE and 3G in 8 days. This can't be the truth for a game on a mobile device!

One issue that could cause a increess in data. If one runs ka when a new quest is about to start, it updates the data set on our devices with new content. If you know there's a new quest coming, use wifi till it's active. So the data set updates on wifi.

I'm on a family shared Data plan, my Daughter came over last week and threatened to take my phone... Guess I used more Data than three others did... I had to remove all Apps from my phone (I talked her into keeping KA, saying I've been playing for I over a year and I told her it couldn't be it... Well guess what? When I checked the next day my usage was still higher than their 3... Somehow this week after a game update my usage is back down to normal... Wish there was some way to send my 2 and a half gigs Data usage cost to Gree to pay... If this Ever happens again I'll never play another Gree game again.
