So while I have just managed to only pick up 20 crates (not open) some people are already on 70+ bottles.... like to know how this is possible

Deep pockets don't influence the drop rate of crates.

To be honest, the moment this event started I dumped all my stamina from mini ( 30 attacks ).... collected 9 hidden stashes . For seasoned player with gozzillion points on stamina and credit card... it shouldn't be all that 'impossible' to drink up 70 bottles within first hour.

Highly unlikely, but .... oh well, it must be the lucky charms !

True, this event has hackers but none ever win. Those who have 100 opened already simply attain them from high level map missions. You can acquire several hundred very quickly this way followed by using gold to open them. The same big spenders are on the leaderboard as they are every event. Most who complain about this event have never been in the top 50 nor will they ever be. This is why Gree added the 8/8 unit award.
