5 gold per Uzi is a little harsh, but it's more cost-effective than farming through jobs. How many Uzis drop per 1000 energy spent farming? Maybe 1-2 on average? 4 Uzis for 20 gold is better than 1-2 Uzis for a 20 gold energy refill.

Of course you can farm Uzis for free. But that is slow. If you need Uzis in a hurry, you will likely end up spending gold on refills.
