It's been weird all the way through. First he was on top then gone, then on top again, now lost over 1200 items.

Speculation time!
It's either the penultimate goodbye kick in the nards from GREE to BZ, maybe a glitch due to a name change or something. An appropriate ending, really, I'm sure BZ would agree, his final action uncovering a new bug.
Or, GREE got in touch with BZ and had him reconsider retirement, and he agreed only if they'd refund the gold he spent during this open 20. Of course then tam is out a few thousand bucks for nothing.... this seems like the less likely event, given his name still implies retirement.

FC has GREE employees. I'm not aware of FC or GREE denying this. In fact, an employee openly stated that.
Edit: Here's what may have happened:
BZ stated he was retiring in 72 hrs and was going to run up the score, but quit at 72 hrs.
He saw that he wouldn't come in 1st if he quit at 72 hrs, so he kept playing to get more cases.
Tam cried to her fellow employees at GREE about him not "keeping his word". She probably even messaged his wall with that nonsense, who knows.
GREE comse down on BZ because of his 72 hr statement, BZ is like "F" you to GREE, and so GREE refunds him all his money spent on opening cases after the 72 hr deadline.
This is garbage because it's not like he signed some contract to say he can't play after 72 hrs. Who gives a crap, it's an game.
More of FC crying. Btw, they changed the gold bonus program because FC was complaining that SAS (or another syndicate) would soon be able to overtake them.

Or Balt contacted his bank to try and refund his last number of transactions saying they weren't valid purchases for some odd reason. The bank reversed the transactions and credited him back his money while they figure out what happens. While this happened the game put him back to the amount where all the dispute gold is getting taken care of. Just my two cents here so who knows if we ever know...

I don't think a refund has any impact on your in-game gold, unless the refund came from Gree. And, I can't think of why Gree would refund his money.

Perhaps the current Balthazer on the leader board is one of his other accounts. He may have only deleted the app on one of his devices.
tam probably agreed on sharing 1st place. Only plausible explanation.

They didn't refund it. They took away all his steam machines that he bought with the gold that he disputed the transactions at the bank. My guess is before he retired he was going to try and stick it to them so he used everything he had knowing he was trying to a credit from his bank. For example, he bought 20 vaults and got 70K gold under the bonus program. He got his bonus and called up his credit card and said they weren't valid transactions. The bank called Crime City and when they saw this they took away all the items he bought with the 70K.
I guess only Balt or CC will let us know if they choose. This is my conspiracy theory so who knows...

When I went to sleep on Friday night, Balt had 200&something cases open and was in the lead. When I woke up on Saturday, he was gone from the leaderboard. Him and I both commented on this in the "Phony Retirement" thread and he said it must have been a "glitch".
Now, his 1600-ish opens are gone, and he's back down in the 200's. Another glitch?
Something screwie is going on with the leaderboard.
