What makes a good GM? Do people stay in guilds where they don't like the GM? Why/Why not?
Obviously I can come off strong & a lot of people on coalition "get me" as they've been around awhile; though I am curious how I may come off to newcomers. I have a detailed strat guide I edit before every war, I do HC promotions for Epic Boss faster than most of my HCs & always demote far more often than my sent/champ, so they can promo when I'm not around. Personally, I think it comes down to straight numbers. I claim to lead the #1 guild & I back it up.

I am the gm of exiled. Mostly non gem spending guild, but currently ranked 234, and finished 480 in the fist weekend war, so I like to think we are highly competitive.
My main is never top scorer for two reasons, I kill the sentinel and then I kill the guardian. I d not spend gems to refill my atk bar.

I often have 1-2 alts in the guild depending on how many actives we have and usually finish in the top 3 points wise with at least 1 of them.

This is my thought of what makes a good GM.
A GM is a captain of the ship, and their main responsibility is to lead and manage.

As a leader, your main tasks is to manage the guild, and steer your crew towards a particular goal (e.g win #1 in gw). I don't think the GM should be the 'best' in the guild personally. you can be a gm that contains powerful players, but of course you must give reasons why would they follow you. If that reason is because you are the most dedicated player in the guild, then so be it.

It is difficult to manage, since currently the only method of reward / punishments are the guild's position. You can't for example help others lower level player maxing their armor, or send your guild champ / sentinel better armor for guild wars.

This thread has devolved so rapidly that I'm not sure it ever stood a chance... a serious post bythe Eun, and aside from exiled guild, all we get is wrestling videos... although I must say, who doesn't like the good ol days of DX?

I also have a detailed guild war strat written that i modify for each war. We are also a mostly free guild, and I often do not score top points for the same reasons replicatorz mention. Bringing down those defenses takes most of my energy. We're doing great for us right now, ranking in the top 100.

We make good use of LINE, coordinate war roles, and try to declare on a regular schedule to make it easy for the guild to remember when we're fighting. Mostly it comes down to organized dedicated players. If only a few in the guild are contributing, it will never work.

As a GM, I think keeping things positive makes members want to stay. If its a chore and not fun, what's the point? At the same time, if they're not active and contributing, again, what's the point? Set standards. If they don't meet them, tell them. If still not - boot em. I think being a good GM requires a serious effort. Even if I don't score major points, I'm the lead on attack, and coordinate different roles.

Spending some gems every now and again doesn't hurt either

For me as a GM I try to make my guild a fun place while still trying to get to top 10. For example I'm doing raffles for google play cards at the end of the month were 1st place 2nd place and 3rd place will get a 50, 25 and 10 dollar google play card. And try to keep major decisions up for majority vote. And give promotions based on how active one is, if they are improving themselves and how helpful they are to other members.

In our guild a good gm is one who listens to the members, mind you our members tend to be pretty decent folk who look after one another for the most part.

We Arnt top 10, although have been top 50 in every war. I was invited at one point to a top ranking guild (interestingly enough after I posted that I spend gems - apparently that got me pretty much an auto invite). Anyway, I said no, simply because I like the people I play with, enjoy their company.

Hell with the way guild wars work, there is zero point in spending hundreds to get number 1, because the next chest reward (or in some case the current one) will beat the crap out of it anyway. :)

I would rather spend my time with people i enjoy the company of.

My previous guild's GM and Sentinel lied to us saying they were going to set up a second guild, but actually just deserted us and joined BondBeyondTime. Worst thing was, the GM made his level 28 alternate account GM instead and didn't appoint a new Sentinel lmao.

I get the impression you're asking in the context of K&D, and that your experience is primarily mobile games. I'm obviously my guild's GM, but I've been around the block for awhile in many guilds in many games. First question that precludes your questions is - what sort of guild is it? Obviously, any idiot can claim to be leading a competitive ultrahardcore guild pew pew, so let's discard that. There are affinity guilds - family, friends, gaming group, they have some factor that brings them together and they stick around for that factor. Maybe they're all local MENSA chapter members, like Majestic. Their GM is rarely judged, unless they go outside of social norms, or are extremely unresponsive to inviting members (ie., getting affinity members in - "WHY HAVEN'T YOU INVITED MY COUSIN VINNY?")

The other two, IMO, are on a spectrum - hardcore to zerg. Zerg is a little limited in KND and probably most mobile games, but they basically invite anyone and everyone to get as many members as possible. Based on some outside communication I've received, I believe KND's weaker equivelent would be zerg alliances. Note that a competitive guild recruiting heavily is not (sin qua non) zerging, although it can have the knock-on effect of reducing the hardcore quotient especially under subsequent management; zerging is recruiting for the sake of recruiting. These GMs are, again, rarely judged outside of extremes.

The other end would be hardcore, clearly defined with pruning inactive/inadequate members (didn't spend enough gems to meet mandatory spend limits? didn't farm enough consumables for the raid? ... et cet). The more strict the criteria and pruning, the more hardcore. There's not a 1:1 correlation for rank and hardcore, but it's certainly a strong correlation. The more hardcore a guild, the more strictly the GM him/herself is judged, in terms of the guild/GM bringing home the bacon. #1 guilds with top 5 performing GMs in most games can say or do just about anything and their members may gripe, but as long as those two criteria are met, it's just talk.

On the other hand, if this is a subtly disguised recruiting thread for those one spender monsters in mid-tier guilds, bravo.

I will echo some of the early page sentiment as to the responsibility of a gm in my eyes. I take that to mean that you need to be a LEADER, which generally means motivating your guild to performance.

In my case, I choose to volunteer my attacks on the guardian and sentinel, knowing my win/loss will be absolute garbage. Because I have higher stats, it is more efficient for me to use my attacks to dispatch those two walls and let the lower level players find targets to rack up the points. I much prefer my one attack on most sentinels than 5 chippies to get rid of him.

It also means that I take it on myself to talk with the guild in chat and on Line to keep people aware of wars, unplanned declares, close battles, timing of tactics, etc. I also take it upon myself to keep talking in the right mood...if we need someone to crack down on people, it's up to me to be stern and demanding. If it's time to be light, start the jokes and let people open up and be themselves.

In other words, I take the role as being responsible for setting the tone and direction.

With that being said, I lead a non-spending guild (I leave it up to players if they choose to or not. Most choose not to, and the couple of active gemspenders I have had have been recruited into leadership positions of high ranked guilds.). We simply wish to be active and upbeat. A good attitude goes a long ways, and we have kicked people for not being a good fit for personality. We placed 95 in the last blitz because we are a good crew who wants to do things "the right way"...having fun and not worried about spending. We are not concerned with being top ten, but rather finding out just how good can we be with little to no spending.

So take that into context with the above. We like to compete, but we like to have fun first. As guild master, I feel it is my responsibility to lead the guild in this direction however is needed at the moment.

My other "real" guild experience outside of mobile was WoW. Main Tank in frozen throne (was Celestial boss in that expansion?) we were 3rd guild on whatever server it was. I quit 1 boss right before 25-man LK, but after 10-man LK

Back on thread, I realized I've been up for ~36 hours. 31 battles down.

Note for any guild masters or guilds out there, avoid a player named Drizzle(lv 106) unless you want to carry someone who does 17k pts.. he lied to us, and from what i heard he has done the same to the past 2-3 guilds he has been in. He has forgestone 90/99, combustion 62/70, blackfrost 60/70, tec 41/99. some of his knights names are wind, ghost, mountain. he has all but 1 expansion--> 3 smiths, rest lvl 2 tf's.. also claims he was the creator of u2ez

Someone that talks a lot in LINE chat everday and hiding during GW.
Someone that only fights with free energy,
Someone that showing SS of fail transaction in purchasing gems, while some of the team members expressing their concerns about losing.
Someone that opening chests at the last day of GW and showing off the new epic he got from the chests.

Players...well maybe the later a little less...But the point is... A good GM constantly takes the temperature of their members and adjusts the thermostat to meet their needs... Hello. My name is Isuma, and I play on Android.

I think that I would be an INCREDIBLE GM, one that stands among any other gm in the arts of being a gm. I am more active than anyone I have met so far. I am dedicated, tenacious, and really help propel my guild to be better. Not a lot of players know me yet, but I know a lot of players. I have been collecting information about the high ranking guilds and high ranking players. I know how to play against them well enough. I am in Dark Souls, we placed 22nd last Guild War, but I'm not even a high commander yet due to being a low level. I really want to get more into this game than I already am.

For this I ask to all you VERY experienced players (Rainbow Room / Majestic) to please add me on line. My username on Line is nmk329 and I REALLY would love to talk to any of you and get a better grasp on the game, and what it's like being in such a high ranking guild, because I know I will be there someday!

I talk to Majestic Norway a lot and he is very helpful, and have talked to Vader a bit, but I'd like to talk to Eunuchorn, or any one of you who are as enthusiastic about this game as I am.

Edit: I realize that I am coming off as a complete noob with this thread, but ask my guild, I played 34 of the first 38 hours last guild war, and scored 16,000 points going against top 40 guilds only at my whopping level 55 at the time!

Gree told me it isn't possible to do from their end *before* glitching went nutso & they were forced to tie everything server side.
I would have every member in guild open a ticket petitioning for a guild name change. (I suggest writing something for them to copy/paste/send ticket)
