Pop up windows when you log in

What is the use of the pop up windows that open when you log in? They sell useless units or chests for large amounts of gems, you would have to be pretty silly to buy one of these unit for 850 gems, it seems the only reason that these pop ups are there is to get people to accidentally spend there gems.

If that is not the case why have them, if you want to buy these units or chests they can be accessed via the menu
