New game hanging on "Creating Your Avatar" screen

I just installed on my Nexus 7.
Choosing an Avatar and pressing Play, brings up a "Creating your Avatar " screen and hangs.
Tried about 5 times, waiting up to 10 minutes each time.

Is the Nexus 7 not supported?
