View Full Version : Recent Lag - Device Specific?

Edited to add that my lag has disappeared entirely with the new update! Thanks to the devs for their attention to this, and I hope we are all lag free now!
Edit #2: Sporadic reports of continuing lag in my guild and throughout the forum. I see a pretty significant lag loading friends list, but this is no where near the pain I saw with laggy battle selection screens. Awaiting the next update...
Original Post:
I've seen several comments on different threads concerning recent increases in lag and some speculation on whether it is device specific or not. The first few weeks I played, I noticed no lag at all. If I did, I probably would have stopped playing. Sometime in the last week or two, lag started appearing for me. First a little in the friends list and profile pages, but now constant and repeatable when entering battles on the world map.
I'm using a Galaxy S3. The worst area of lag I've seen is entering battles. Example would be farming snakeskins at Skeletons Tomb. A lag-free start-to-finish run can be done in about 45 seconds, but I'm seeing 15 seconds of lag at the knight selection screen (or at the battle start screen if I choose my knights quickly).
Needless to say this deeply cuts into the number of snakeskins I can farm in an hour. With the tremendous about of grinding involved to farm for materials, this is disheartening to say the least.
I've heard people talk about experiencing longer lag, or no lag at all. Makes me wonder...
What device do you use? Do you experience lag? If so, where and for how long?

15 seconds for every battle that should be 45 seconds. That adds up. For the snakeskin example, that's a 25% drop in battles per hour. If the lag is device specific or android specific, it may help Gree identify a fix.

I found that on my device (HTC) that the lag was really apparent when I had a lot of friends. Now that I cut down the number by half, the lag is quite minimal. That might be the case for you too?

I have anyware from 15 sec per battle to like 45 sec. It is also bad when looking at the friends list to prune the inactives and that can be 30-45 sec as well. I also have a Galaxy S3.

I may try that, if the knight selection screen is loading the entire friends list every time, it may be a factor. I have 99 friends at the moment.
So far we have 3 android users with lag and 2 android users with little to no lag. If we get enough responses, a trend may appear.

I have been experiencing lags and hangs very frequently too after the guild update. Now I'm even lazy to farm snakeskin because of the lag.

Friend list was already pointed to as the source of game lag on Android a few weeks ago.
Keeping friends limited to about 50 seems to fix the probablem for many.
Fortunately on my ASUS TF700 tablet, even at 129/129 friends, lag was limited to 5 sec. at the start and end of a friend battle and at most 1-2 sec. in other locations.

^ This.
At least for Android devices, the number of friends you have is directly related to the length of the lag. Apparently, those lag points are when the game is loading your friends so that you can hire/battle them. I first had really noticeable lag at about 30 friends. With about 42 friends now, the lag is noticeably a little longer.

Last night, I wiped out 18 friends that appeared to be inactive (99 to 81 friends). Today, lag dropped from 15 seconds to 8 seconds. I'll see if this holds throughout the day.
I don't like the thought of a half-full friends list though. I remember how useful it was (and still is) to have some high level help around. I think I'll give my lvl 60-70 friends a week to blast through lvl 70 or they're toast. =P

I am using Samsung S3 and the lag before stages/epic boss is about 15 to 20 seconds ... when i had 100+ friends it was worse ... now i deleted some friends and brought down the list to 60 friends it seems better ... i don't want to delete more friends as this point so i cannot test if the lag will go away if i delete more friends.

I have the same problem as TS which leave me frustrated to no point as farming snakeskin takes double the time as opposed if there was no lag and it happens everytime i try to initiate the battle, doesn't matter how fast i select my knights or friends, if i do it slow, i get stuck at the selecting knight , if i do it fast i get stuck at the first battle when my knight is doing his attack halfway so anyway i went to take a look and i was up to 115 friends. I have like 30 - 1 minute screen freeze which varies in battles or opening friend list.
Since then, i've dramtically reduced my friend to 48 and my lag time( still there ) has been cut to 3-5 seconds on a rate of 50% of it acutally coming out so i'm pretty content. If i could i would have reduced the amount of friends i have to 30 and i believe that will most likely solve the issue.

S3 - lots of lag.
Someone pointed out to me that its dependant on number of friends. I found this to be true. The more friends i had, the longer the lag.
I went from 90 odd friends to 40 odd and the lag shot down to under 10 seconds.

LG Optimus G. 41 friends. 5-10 sec lag.
I use Note 2.
Huge lag, 124/124 friends.
It was great leveling with powerful friends. I liked returning the favour, but I can't farm or do F all due to lag so looks like I too will nee to hack and slash my friends or quit.
Switching programs sometimes helped with forcing some sort of connection update to unfreeze, but this sometimes caused weird glitches to happen such as needing to reload and redo battles.
Such a shame really, it would be nice if the programmers could fix this so that our accumulated friends did not need to suffer.

I would expect a bug fix. Currently the game lags always while it should only look at your friendslist when needed (so if you want to select a friend to join). So changing that would already solve most of the problems and if they can also decrease the amount of lag it would be even better.

Heh. BlueStacks emulator: 5-10 second lag when trying to click "next" to go to the hire friends part of a battle at 47/51 friends.
It really is a friends issue. Reduce your friends to 30-40 and you will see.

Sorry to those who I deleted but the game became too frustrating to play with the constant delay.

Everything is laggy on my old Iphone3s. When I play the game, it drains the battery in 2 hours and the phone gets hot, hot, hot. Would be nice if there was an option to turn down the graphics, because i seriously don't need to all those flashy effects after seeing them thousands of times.

I do believe the Guild war lags for example were worse on older Itouch devices than on the new Iphone devices for example. But ive also heard some say that even on the New Iphone / Samsumg they had some issues.
But I since the last Gw might have been a size / overload of data issue with the members I assume phones with more power being able to play it easier. Specific devices as in , really bugs per specific device even despite newer / older tech? I'm not sure

This lag and the need to reduce your friendlist is getting annoying, anyone with 100+ friends end up lagging for close to 1minute per start of a battle.
The devs/managers need to strongly consider doing a sort of paging of the friendlist, like they have done with the leaderboards and with the background (pre)loading of data. It's a really big battery drain, and my phone should not be getting so hot when I'm playing...

I also lag badly and I am using the LG Spectrum (Android) It is a real pain and tremendously slows game progress and play. Your not the only one. My S3 gets very hot. Battery drains about 10% in five minutes so I tend to leave my phone plugged in while playing and am anticipating the need for a new battery before too long. Only one other (non-gree) game has done that to me in the past. They reportedly found what was looping in their app and my phone stopping behaving like a frying pan.

Same on GS3 seem to get a 1-2 min lag when entering friends list. Phone seems to get a bit hot but I suspect that's from the screen always beeing on while playing game. Usually have phone plugged in while playing and have my back up battery charging as well. Usually when I feel the battery too hot I just switch them out.

iPad 2. I'm getting a lag on the choosing friends for battles (normal and epic). I didn't used to get it, but now I'm guessing its anywhere from 15-30 seconds per friend choice. Not as debilitating as a lag on battles would be, but aggrevating none the less

This is a fairly brutal bug because it forces you to choose between two critical resources. Your time and your Friends list.
When the game revolves around the amount of time you spend farming resources, a 15,20 or 60 second lag at the beginning of the battle cuts your progress nearly in half. I have to spend twice as much time as a user without any lag and just isn't possible to keep up with the high-levels.
The other critical resource is your friends list. I was able to reduce the amount of lag to 10 seconds (per battle) by pruning my friends list down to 45. This provides me with less opportunity to hire a friend for epic battles or farming materials. This also slows down my ability to keep up with other players.
The worst part is that it really kills the fun of playing the game. If you think farming materials is a mindless grind, think about how mindless it is to stare at the "Choose your party" screen and wait for the game to finish locking up. Not to mention the social component of the game is what makes games like this enjoyable. Killing half your friends list in order to circumvent a technical issue is the nail in the coffin.
Hopefully this matter is given the attention it deserves.

Thanks for taking the time to create an account and post this. I've seen many first-time posters on this thread; five on this page alone. That should speak to the level of frustration many of us are seeing with the lag vs friends list.
I'm sure the devs are aware of it, and I also hope to see a fix soon. We've seen suggestions and comments raised in the forums get attention rather quickly. I think they lurk much more than they post :)

I think maybe if it was sorted to pages of friends maybe something small like 20 friends a page
Definitely noticed a significant increase in time to choose friends to bring into battle.

I am on Android, Motorola Atrix HD..
I too have had to slaughter my friends list, but I like having it low. I hate the idea of calling a bunch of random people my friends, when a.) unless you know them from guild/boards/etc you never speak to them, don't know them at all, and they just aint your friend!.
I think my current list at 25, all 85+ is perfect to me. I never 'don't have' a friend to use in battle if needed, and at 100 with decent gear, theres no zones you 'need' friends to help you with anyways, aside from the Epic Boss. And where the EB is concerned, your better off with friends who are active in going to 51+ on the EB with nemesis gear and so on.
So in other words, even though I notice the lag when I have more then 35+ friends on the list, it doesn't make that big of a difference to me as a player to not have that many.
I think this game has a serious potential to be a long term game, but the developers and the people who pay them, need to realize what is necessary to compete in the continuous playability gaming market.

I'm on iPad 3 with 129/129 friends. Prior to the mini guild war event, there was very little lag. There is now 30 seconds of lag from the time I tap the Choose Friend screen to when the friend list actually populates. There are also 2-3 second mini lags when changing party members. I'm not ready to pare down the friend list yet, so I am also hoping an update will address this issue.

I noticed a big difference when I installed new version. I'll try to fill up my friends list ASAP to see if it holds.
The friends list now loads one pane at a time. I imagine some won't like that, but if it kills the lag, I'm all for it. Perhaps a future fix would be to split the new 'Load More' button into halves with 'Load More' and 'Load All'.
Might be even better to just replace it with a 'Load All' button as the majority of the time (i.e. farming) you don't want any friends, but when fighting a boss, you might need to scroll far to the right to find that friend with nemesis... =P

I found the lag has dropped quite significantly since update. Only lags on start up (which is for ~5 seconds and acceptable) and I don't think it lags anywhere else!
I feel silly now playing with no lag. I find myself sitting there looking at my knights doing nothing for several seconds before I remember I don't have to wait anymore. Just out of habit I am staring at the selection screen =/

Have the same problem like others had or have, my SGS 3 (normal not mini edition) gets very hot while playing. I can only assume that the Game is using to much power to run due to the animations. That is bad cause the Battery usage rate is really very high 30 Min play and 10-15% are gone :( that's no exaggeration. I wrote to the support but they are not qualified enough to give me a answer. Just told me to post in the Forum which is pathetic ! Does someone has a solution or just we have to live with it ?

The game is a battery hog and most touch-devices will get "extremely" hot when playing due to their CPU's and compact designs. Known issue for samsung and HTC.
