Alright here's an idea for a thread. When did you start playing?

If you want to post additional details:
What was the strongest unit at the time? Events? Players you aspired to be like? Other?

I started 12/4/11 I think, the correct date is in my sig. I think the only event was collect 10.. If that

I started playing on December 10, 2011. The strongest unit at the time was 310/185. And it cost 900 gold! For those of you that don't believe in stat inflation there you go. Back then 40 gold could get you the Gatling tank 24/26. I aspired to be like JohnnyR and Mcdoc. Being the noob I was, I tracked down their ally codes. They have both been on my ally list since :) the only event was a collect 10, giving out the armed infirmary (100something/305)

Probably around 9 months ago

I know for sure there was no WD, factions or LTQs and that there were boss and crate events, along with the occasional PVP

There were no rankings/battle points, no limited time buildings

Putting things in perspective, rares for the boss event were probably 90/90 and there was only a grand prize not rewards every 5

The strongest units were probably from crate leaderboards and were around 2000/2000

Crazy stuff, now must people have units around that strength

I remember the first collect ten event, and how the unit looked so powerful...at the time. I remember the first boss event, Warlord Shamba, and how I would constantly keep checking back to see if my health had regenerated. My best unit was the Viking Incursion Craft, some crate uncommon with 80 attack, for awhile, until my first rare unit from the boss was earned; after not getting one for a couple of boss events, I was thrilled. Those were the days.

12/25/2012, the rare boss prizes still had under 200 stats, and I thought that the one year veteran was a great unit(120/80)

Dec, 2011. I don't think the Collect 10 started yet.

Mcdoc, War Priest, Bronson, Miner, to name a few, were very helpful and entertaining forum members....Ahhhh, the old days.

My greatest purchase at the time was 5 Citadel Command Carriers 140/339, 950 gold each!

January 2013, starting out in a cruddy little top 4000 faction where the dl was a L100 with 28,000 defense (yeah, you read that right, 28k), and we had one gold player who put up 25k points in the war, and I thought he was the greatest. First war was Greenland and thank god I played CC before so I knew of boss events lol. That 25k? Funny that I beat that free last war ;)

I downloaded the Modern War app onto my phone in December of 2011. I thought it would be a phone version of Call of Duty. It wasn't. I did not delete it though. Kept it on my phone until one day in January 2013 (13 long months) I was bored and gave it a shot. Haven't put it down since. Took me several months to figure out what was going on but now I have a solid grasp on things. I have 2 accounts over 300k att and 400k def with solid IPH.

I think I began in May or June 2012. I am not sure what the most powerful unit was, but I remember the first 10 crate prize that I won a couple of months later that was the Autonomous Heavy Artillery 236/101. I went out that night to celebrate.

I first started when there was the Arctic Boss event, really pissed me off as i kept getting pop-ups of an Epic Enemy and it kicked my ass 20x over. Lol

I'm not sure when I started, but I've been playing for quite a while. I remember seeing a lvl120 on my ally list with 88k defense. I looked at his inventory and saw that he had 200 Gigns, and I was telling myself "wow, i hope im that strong one day". Now I have 300K defense, and 1,000 Gigns. lol

I started the month it started because they were promoting it in CC. I was always primarily a CC player and dabbled in this and KA on the side when notjing was going on in CC. Of course, playing it in a non-commital fashion led to me doing things early in the game that didn't make sense long term, and now I regret it a little.

I started playing dec 2011 I think. I remember the holiday themed limited gold units... B-52 that dropped hearts. Shamrock tank... Etc. I think the common unit in boss events are stronger than them now. I've always played as free player, and had some solid stats as lvl 94 with 50k attack/defense with like 150k IPH... Good enough for top 10 faction in brazil at least.... Not good enough for Greenland though :)

I started playing around September 2012, all I did was missions until about level 40 with 20k stats and 150k IPH, I realized that leveling up on the side missions was horrible. I joined this forum I while in Janurary looking for a walkthrough to become a Top 100 player. I remember the first 3 LT Buildings, 100 million!! That was crazy for me at the time. Even if I bought $99 in "cash" I wouldn't even be a quater of the way to the first one. Ever since I couldn't drop this game.

I started playing around two years ago. Back in the days there were not any boost buildings, and when first LE set came out, I knew I "had" to invest to that powerful Ground unit - Arctic Radar with stats of 40/125 and even powerful vs. sea!

Not so soon after, first "collect 10 items" was introduced. The prize was something we were newer even dreamed of, a bonus unit with 20% casualty reduction. "Gotta have my hands on that one, it's so über-powerful!" I thought. And succeeded acquiring the ten vaccines for it. :) My excitiment was beyond belief.

Then in one point, I quit for about four months and when came back to action, all were diffirent. My powerful pixel-army was blown to pieces, and semi-powerful stats of 100k were complite rubbish! Shrugging the bullets and licking the wounds, I joined into fight once again. :)

February 2012. Don't remember much about back then. But what I do remember is that I was one of the fortunate ones who lost 2-3 units on every raid and every attack....so my game consisted of missions only. When world domination came along, not being able to do valor missions and the like, after almost a year of active play, I had 19k/22k stats in Brazil. We finished 197 in brazil, and I had zero problems finding targets and scoring 40k points. Now, 8 months later and still a free player, I'm well over 200k....it's crazy the stagflation going on. I'm up 70/80k since Australia.

playing for a year and a half, but really started enjoying the game a year ago. Bought my first set of 4 prizes for 1400bars with the rear guard soldier 24/45 for something like 80bars and the rare prize was a delta response 424/636 :(

Nov 2011, JMC was the one who helped me the most in the beginning. Used to be more active on the forum like so many others. Segwins comes to mind as well he should be back home by now or soon.

General Insane was the game changer IMHO. Dingleberry has been a good MW friend through all these years.

Almost a full year of MW now. My son was playing and asking for a little help. I ended up not giving his tablet back for a week. Now I've got MW and CC on my tablets and phones as well. Weekends are mostly spent locked in his room battling.

Exactly a year ago as of this Month. My llp is still in my original faction.
12,000 gold spent in this battle. Never would have thought when I started this that I'd be mental enough to get that much gold.
Had no influences though. Just let the game take me for a ride. Only been in the big leagues for about 5-6 WD.

Ok - ok - you drew me out -

My daughter found an Ipad in the back of her airplane seat pocket on her flight home from college on Dec 14, 2011. I tried to contact the owner via an email contact that was in the Ipad - but never got a response. About a month later - around Jan 17th - I decided to mess around some more with this Ipad - never owned an Apple product before - clung to my Blackberry - so I was searching for a good game to check out. I had played Diablo / Diablo II / and Star Wars Galaxies religiously in the past and really liked the part of developing a character & using a long term strategy - so when I found Modern War - I thought it was a good fit for the type of game play I enjoyed.

At that time - the BEST unit in the game was a Gold LE Unit called the Robot Walker - which is now a daily scratcher prize. I never had one - let it pass by the first 3 days I started playing - regretted it for months as I thought it was the coolest looking unit. Resisted any gold spending all through January - then the Valentine's LE came out - I saw that Chocolate Sub! I just KNEW I couldn't let that one go by and so I bought gold for the first time - got the Choco Sub - got the Special Agent of Love - skipped the pink letter bomber plane dropping pink envelopes - then they introduced the Crate event - I think I spent a vault or two trying to get that Armored Ambulance - luckily I was already leveled up enough to get the Top Tier version - and basically I've been hooked on the game since day one.

I remember the St Patricks Day LE sets were a huge controversy as Funzio released them around 10pm one night and for about 90 gold - you could get the Irish Fighter with like 90/60 stats - which was really inflated over all the previous units out at that time - WP mentioned it in a post - I bought 4 of them - they cancelled that unit around midnight and re-released one called the IRA Fighter with 45/?? Stats - and then came the finger pointing the next day that anyone with the Irish Fighter was a cheater for buying it - LoL

Oh yeah - I finally got a Robot Walker on a Daily Scrather about 2 months ago :)

Edit: You asked who were the top players - Lord & Stephen come to mind as the guys who already owned the game before I ever got started - and the "Whale Zone" was thought to start around level 90 - so I "camped" between Level 60 & 85 for about 3 weeks - LoL

Thanks for starting a light hearted thread :)

Started somewhere around late spring of 2012. Downloaded it as a way to get Tapjoy "Stars" in another game. Needless to say, Modern War took over significantly higher priority than that other game.

I remember thinking that 1 year Veteran was a great free unit and thinking it was cool getting the daylight chaser just to commemorate Daylight Savings Time (not realizing at the time it was a "Sorry we messed up" present.)

I googled Warlord Shimbo cause I couldn't figure out how to get him and that brought me to this forum, after which my gameplay changed dramatically as I actually learned how to play with all the great advice and tips found around here. I remember reading a post congratulating Modern War androids for finally getting boss events and welcome to the fun.
