Since we all know that tam and Grimly Fiendish have already agreed upon a number of Garter Pistols so that they tie for the top spot (I guess h is on vacation or something), let's see who can guess the final number at which they will tie for first place.

I guess 403.

Congrats to both of them for once again playing Gree and walking away with a superweapon.

I'm picking 450 on the dot! I also predicting the player constantly changing his name, will have Tam or HB in next name change! Anybody have an exact count on how many different names he had so far? 15,20? Who is that anyways? At first was comical, but now it seems like he has some deep rooted issues!

Congrats to both of them for once again playing Gree and walking away with a superweapon.

403 pistols means roughly 1200 bags opened.

1200 bags X (15/reset + 20/open) = 42000 gold

42000 gold is approximately $2,800 USD (before discounts)

It costs Gree pretty close to $0 to create pixels, so handing out two prizes will cost $0 X 2 = $0.

So Gree will net $5600 just from these two players in a 4 day event.

Wow, Gree. You got played!

PS...nevermind the money....1200 case opens and resets?

I'm not sure whose financial statements you have been reviewing, but Gree definitely had a COGS. Common sense tells us that there are server costs, their building, selling expenses, employee salaries, etc. Even for these particular pixels, they had to pay their production artist. Who knows, they might still be at a net negative depending on how they do their accounting, though I doubt jt. I get your point, but it's bad form to use numbers that are inaccurate.

I'll guess 433.

Pudgy Pumpkin

Gree designs these leaderboard events to reward the biggest spender, when the top two players decide on a stopping point and purposely tie (with both getting the main prize) they essentially remove the auction element for the top prize. That said, I agree with TTT that Gree may make sufficient money from the top two pulling far enough ahead of everyone else that Gree just doesn't care if the top two coordinate to win the top prize.

I'm not sure why they wouldn't, the prize is certainly worth it. At least maybe if three fight clubbers each land the top prize, maybe Gree will actually admit that three members of the same syndicate with full access to chat software would not end on the same number by accident.

How do you figure? The stats are on par with a top 25 syndicate event prize, and the modifier is pretty much worthless. Not bad, of course, but I can't see how this prize is even a blip on the radar of someone spending that much gold.

That's true. I wasn't thinking like a player with a seven figure attack, but then again, I guess there isn't much out there that can increase their attack score, so maybe they justify it that way.

If everyone agreed to only 20 it would save a ton of gold, it would give only those that can get to 20 the prize. Remember there are a ton of free players who won't even make it to 15. This is a pointless competition when gree has openly said that if there is a tie everyone involved in the tie gets the prize..

BigMoney
06-20-2013, 05:39 AM
The word you were probably looking for is "hypocritical" or something. That's not ironic in the slightest.

Edit: just for questioning my vocabulary:

Merriam-Webster defines irony as:

1: a pretense of ignorance and of willingness to learn from another assumed in order to make the other’s false conceptions conspicuous by adroit questioning —called also Socratic irony

2: a) the use of words to express something other than and especially the opposite of the literal meaning
b) a usually humorous or sardonic literary style or form characterized by irony
c) an ironic expression or utterance

3: a) : incongruity between the actual result of a sequence of events and the normal or expected result; an event or result marked by such incongruity
b) incongruity between a situation developed in a drama and the accompanying words or actions that is understood by the audience but not by the characters in the play —called also dramatic irony, tragic irony

Synonyms
1, 2. Irony, sarcasm, satire indicate mockery of something or someone. The essential feature of irony is the indirect presentation of a contradiction between an action or expression and the context in which it occurs. In the figure of speech, emphasis is placed on the opposition between the literal and intended meaning of a statement; one thing is said and its opposite implied, as in the comment, “Beautiful weather, isn't it?” made when it is raining or nasty. Ironic literature exploits, in addition to the rhetorical figure, such devices as character development, situation, and plot to stress the paradoxical nature of reality or the contrast between an ideal and actual condition, set of circumstances, etc., frequently in such a way as to stress the absurdity present in the contradiction between substance and form. Irony differs from sarcasm in greater subtlety and wit.

I'm not top25, but I have 62 pistols, and will get top250. I think the odds of getting pistol have gotten worse. I might get one on 2nd or 3rd try, but then I go 12 in a row without one. This event has cost more than any other recent 20case event.

It seems to me that the open rate is (technically) the same, but that there may have been an alteration to how the randomness is generated.

Butt: I was more referring to people who have insanely juvenile mentalities when they're well and truly old enough to have developed basic social skills. And the hilarity that those sorts of people spend phenomenal amounts of gold but still can't manage to win anything at all.

Or from previous events, people who get game resets instead of the ban they deserve, and then blow all their gold chasing number 1, only to run out of steam after the first day.

In the end leaderboard events are a great way to part bad players with deep pockets from large amounts of gold for no reward, and we should all be thankful.

I'd get ten. If someone approached me to collude for top prize, I'd definitely screw them at the last minute.

Why? Because when I play a game, I play to win, not tie.

Playing to tie is for people with no competitive spirit, and parents of children who need help with their self-esteem.

You'd lose out in the long run. If you had one rival who spends a similar amount of gold as you, you'd imagine that you would each win the top prize 50% of the time. So why not both win it every time and save yourself gold in the long term? No player has so 'dominated' this game in the sense of winning every single top prize for a sustained period. It's a split, dependent on who happens to spend more gold and who gets lucky in each event. It's therefore sensible to remove the chance element and come to a rough approximation.

Plus everyone would think you were a back-stabbing g*t and you'd lose your friends. But that's assuming you actually had any in the first place...

:P I jest

In the last event, when the top 2 tied for first, they were both level 250. Though I believe GREE said it was their policy to award the prizes to both in the event of a tie, but one remarked that they would deal with it in the future if it became an issue.

Edit:

If it becomes a problem we'll find a tie breaker or something, but this is the only time anyone has tied for the #1 spot. We almost always have a lot of people in the 250 spot and it's always been our policy to award the prize to them.

EDIT : See CJ's post. We're going to follow the same protocol as for Modern War.

There are no tiebreaker rules. If people tie for the number that would get a prize, both those people get a prize. This has happened a couple of times over in Modern War. EDIT: It's been awhile, though, and A&F was correct that it has never happened in Crime City before (first time for everything, though).
