Um what's the purpose of this?

It may have been there before but I just noticed after the update to iOS that there is a green +5 that pops up in the cash bar at the top of the screen it happens about every min or two. At first I though perhaps it automatically added cash but the amt of cash in the bar never changes. So what is it for?
