It depends on what percentage of sea units make up your entire defnce, remember there are 4 parts to defence, infantry, ground, air and sea and if you are stromg in the air, you won't benefit as much.
Other factors matter too like flag bonus, boost unist and faction boosts.

Honestly, I'm afraid to use any gold on this event simply because you spend 15 bars to reset the timer, then 15 more to open a chest (30 gold bars total) only to get 10 Concrete Blocks or one of the other prizes instead of a Sapphire.

One trick I follow, most of you may know, but some don't, if you collect your money from your money buildings, then attempt to open a chest BEFORE putting the money in the vault (ie: have exposed money), my chances of opening a chest have been greater. One tip: be sure you have enough exposed money to cover the cost of the chest. In other words, if you're a level 50, it will cost you $50,000 to open a chest, or if you're level 70, it will cost $70,000, so be sure to have at least that much exposed before attempting to open the chest.

I was on my 80th hour from number nine before the tenth. But I did notice that I got something every three tries, be it a nice unit, valor or money. I saw someone reference a smaller amount, but money was always $1.25 million, and counting back, I won enough money to pay for all he cash opens I did. Quite remarkable that the game was somewhat self financing.

It does seem as if there are loads of players getting the 10 sapphires using cash opens only. I have not heard anyone on here saying they got 10 while using gold. We have had several in our faction use lots of gold trying to get to 10 and not one of them, myself included, have gotten there. We have had many that have gotten it with only cash opens though. Sounds like a "competent" business model.

I have won the last five of these. No gold. Never spend gold on these. Exactly for what has previously been written: all it assures you of is an opening. Never assures you of the goal item. All I have done for the last 5 has been cash openings, every hour, on the hour, minus the openings I miss during 6 hours of sleep a night. This current one, I was on 8 for 56 hours. Lots of openings, lots of money/units/and concrete. Then, I got 9 and 5 hours later 10. I am not saying this will happen every time. It just takes persistence to get it (and some luck). You can't let it frustrate you. I am sure that is one of the points of it. Frustration = more loose with the gold spending. In the end, I guess, I am rambling a lot to say: Stay diligent and do not spend gold. Regardless of what it seems at the time.

Also, I don't know how much it matters, but I have never have more than 5 crates on me at a time. When I get to 7-10, I usually only have 2-3 boxes. Having a gazillion doesn't seem to help, and I wonder if it may hurt....Just a theory.

Also heard/read some theories about being over vaulted and never closing the program after the first opening helping. Again, just theories.

Our theory is its level based, but who knows. I got it open with only cash and seem to be having an easier time with crate events.

Remember your probability is better than 1% but less than 2% for the 10th box. IE you have to open 100 Boxes before you break even with the odds.....keep going and the odds will be beating you :D

Also the left nipple trick bronson use to suggest works...just not for me

I do the funky chicken dance while singing Kylie Minogue's "I should be so lucky...". I've got 1 open so far, so I will have to add the nipple trick to my routine to increase my chances. It's going to be a very tricky and complicated routine, so don't try this at home!

At the risk of being shot down, this was much easier than previous collect ten events. Maybe a bit of a softener after the last LTQ was so rough on stats.

I got number ten this morning all on cash opens, no gold spent. I've never managed to get this many before using this method.

Congrats on getting the 10th & to others who just got it lately! It seems 65% here who got the 10 with cash only & 35% are still sad & stuck at 8th & 9th. Like many, I was stuck on 9, using cash opens. I tried probably 10-12 times/day for 3 days, then finally got #10 today. I used only cash opens. Totally worth the cash spent.

You wouldn't believe it - I just opened mine and finally got the 10th! Like you said, I used gold here and there, to reset the timer and open it and was up to my last 20 gold getting annoyed and was thinking of buying gold so i could try and make it in the last 4 hours but glad I finally got it! I'm UK so the added bonus will be cool :)

I must say this has been a bit easier than the previous events they've had, not to say I'm complaining but definitely the previous ones were harder and I couldn't get past maybe the 5th gem and would have to spend so much gold that in the end I couldn't be bothered. I think what I liked about this event was the the units had higher stats than previous events and thought I'd just try my luck.

Coincidentally I never received a sapphire when using gold to open, and never had a successful open after a gold timer reset. All 10 sapphires were received after cash opens. Probably just a coincidence.

It's nice to see some folks got to ten with cash only, it's the only way to go with these frustrating box events. I only made it to 8 and went 0 for 60 on the ninth. Extremely low odds and that's only for the ninth box.

Did anyone else not get the 10% sea bonus after getting the ship? My defense went up the 3000 odd points from the ship itself, but i should have gone up quite a bit more than that. Even after i closed the app and re-opened, and several faction mates are reporting the same thing. Am i late to the party on this one, and its just another "oops, it was never meant to have this bonus" or what?

It does show up in my bonuses section, but the stats didnt actually work, similar to the +2 energy from the 2 planes in another event. Funny how they still show up making you think you have it, but in reality they dont work. I get around 70-75k def from sea, so my boost after getting this ship should have been around 10k+, yet i only went up the 3000 odd points. What the heck is going on here. And like i said, there were 6 or 7 others in my faction who got this and all went up only those 3000 points. This sucks.
