I just want to thank each and every one of you who have either served or are serving in the military! It is because of you that I may live in a country where I can live and enjoy the freedoms that you have fought for or continue to protect today. Thank you for your commitment, dedication and service!

God bless America and God bless you!

Thanks for starting the thread. I too would like to salute our fallen heros this Memorial Day with a moment of silence. Think of the ones they left behind and give a prayer for them, including our international friends; To the military, firefighters, police and emergency personal who have given the ultimate sacrifice to us and our country. God bless them and their families. I can only give a humble thank you for your sacrifice.

Please take the time to listen to the following.

I respect (the majority of) those who serve/have served in the armed forces even though I'm not a fan of the decisions that those running them often make and feel the term "hero" is thrown around far too freely nowadays.
The lack of government support for vets is horrible also.

Thanks for the support guys. I appreciate it. All the members of the military I have served with appreciate it. We are honored to serve patriots like you guys. To all the fallen soldiers, thank you for the ultimate sacrifice. To all veterans, world wide in every county, thank you for the help as well. Your contributions to your countries are never forgotten.

Obviously as I'm sure all are aware, there are some bad ones, but that doesn't mean they all are, just like not all muslims are terrorists. They are the minorities.

I'm sure most would also agree that war is a horrible thing, especially for those who live where the war is occurring.

Personally i respect no one who has taken a life, we dont give life so who are we to take one. Those who have commit war crime should be punished regardless who they are, what faith they are.

And if that person has no choice (kill or be killed)?
Of course war crimes should be punished and not just swept under the rug as often happens. That's the problem with the in house legal system they use (in place so that they can keep things quiet). There needs to be public condemnation of war crimes even when committed by your own side.

Anyway, I should stop, as it's moved away from the intentions of the thread.

To put it back on track.

Memorial Day is to pay tribute to those people who died while serving in the United States Services.

Akin to ANZAC day in Australia and New Zealand (25th April) and Remembrance Day (11 November) in all Commonwealth Countries.

True story:
Anzac day about 30 years ago, my Father meeting a fellow veteran from the second world war and spending an entire afternoon talking and indeed, reminiscing over a time when they were together on the battlefield.

The fact they had fought on opposite sides was irrelevant.....it was the commemoration of the ultimate sacrifice that their fellow soldiers had made that was important.

Amen to that! A bunch of my family attended Rolling Thunder yesterday, including my father-in-law and a friend who are veterans. The guys rode there and were very humbled by the support shown by thousands of people along their trip to DC. They said there were people on every highway overpass with signs, flags, etc. cheering the riders to their destination. The turnout for this event was awesome, I still haven't heard what the head count was, but it was spectacular.

Every person we passed on the route was supporting and cheering the riders on. I've never seen that level of respect.

I understand what the mole is saying but I like to think of the majority who are honorable and deserve the accolades and for those who lost their lives fighting for our or other countries freedom.

I'm a voluntaryist and the only one that really gives a crap about freedom. America and it's wars are the antithesis of freedom........

And before you little clowns start yapping I was active for eight years and just got out three weeks ago. The service is not protecting you. You're safety is not their objective.

True, but that's a reflection on the establishment and not the service men/women.
If the establishment valued the lives of its service men/women more than PR then they would have had far less wars, as a lot have been unnecessary.

Two of my best friends are oversea right now, one in Kosovo and one in Afghanistan. My friend in Afghanistan is EOD, explosive ordinance disposal. My family has fought in every war/conflict/operation this country has had. God bless the veterans of all nations! There is nothing more honorable than being willing to sacrifice yourself for the many. I pray for safety and the end of all wars.

True peace would be nice instead of this whole fighting for peace contradiction, but I doubt it will happen in our life times, if ever. There are just too many people that get seduced and corrupted by power.

Sadly, I must agree with you. "Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely." Wanting world peace is very cliché, but I do not understand the arguments against the desire. Full peace will never be achieved simply because nobody believes it is possible. My grandmother was very fond of saying, "I can't never did anything."

Yes, you had war too, you had war with Japan, nazi German, but not as big as we had with nazi German... We lost 28 mill people. I am just so angry because someone thinks that US is godwho saved us, they don't remember about Russia and Britain...

Mole, your choice of Memorial Day to spite our military is despicable. I would be willing to bet everything I have that if your life was in danger you would cry like a baby for an American serviceman to kill those attempting to kill you. Those of us who have served and paid with substantial damage to our bodies and psyche despise people like you. Despite our feelings we would still place ourselves in peril to protect you.

It was a combined effort in the end. If the USA had joined sooner then it probably wouldn't have got as far as it did. Unfortunately it took Pearl Harbor to happen for them to really join, as it finally made the decision for them.

Yea, that was ridiculous.
I personally disagree with your disappointment at the police not killing them. Suicide by police was their end goal (the whole martyrdom crap), so by not killing them they don't get the easy way out. You also can't interrogate a dead man.

Vballmadam. Class as always my dear. Glad you are busy in RL and hope that things continue to go well for you there.

Memorial Day is a powerful testimony that freedom has a huge cost. For me it is very scarey as my youngest is looking at heading to the Air Force Academy to play her sport and to serve our country. Proud and nervous at the same time.

Honors to our fallen friend in Great Britain, what a horrible event and continues to show how sick some people are.

Many thanks to our service men and women who continue to put themselves out there whether in uniform or not.

Respect.
