max number of units to battle??

I've read a couple a different threads and also the noobs guide and still a little confused
On a certain topic.
We are having a n interesting conversation in our faction......is their a limit to the number of a certain type of unit you can bring to battle.


Example....if I have 500 allies.....2000 units.....

Do I only bring a max of 500 of the best unit type.??? 500 best air, 500 best sea....and so on....or can I bring 1000 air if they are stronger than my sea?
Also...assuming the above.....is it pointless to have 500+ of a single valor unit??

You bring your 2000 strongest units in attack when you attack, and your 2000 strongest defensive units to battle when you are attacked. This is assuming you are level 100 and have 500 allies. It does not discriminate based on ground, air, sea, infantry...your 2000 strongest will go.

Unless you have a certain boost for a 243 attack infantry of 10% which would bring that instead of a regular 245 sea unit without a boost.
