View Full Version : How much real money have you spent on this game?

For me, I have spent exactly $0. As much as I would like to get some of the stuff they offer, in the end, it's just not worth it. Not for the amount they are charging anyway. A good PC or console game costs about $60 and you will get the full content. $60 here will not get you very far at all. Heck, not even a few hundred. May get you a special unit here or there but with these events, there's a chance that even though you spent all that money, you still may not get that special unit.

In any case, I'm just curious on what you've all spent (if any) and what do you use the gems for mainly.

9.98$ its only a game. I was reading about people spending 1000$+. no matter how much money you have spending that much is just moronic.

Let people spend whatever they want.... its their money, not yours. Who are you to say it is a waste of money?
What would you say if I said buying alcohol or cigarettes is a waste of money? I dont buy alcohol or cigarettes, but if someone wants to, that is their prerogative.

The game is like a hobby, so if someone wants to spend money on it, than they should do that.
It brings them further with their goal and who's someone else to say something about that??
I used by now many gems, while in start.. I didn't want to do that, anyway by now my stats are 600+ and I'm in lv.121.

Box events and Boss events, I don't like, because that is for me too much about chance, so I don't spend (real money) gems on those.
Quest events are are without chance, so on that I spend if needed some gems, same as for the Guild wars...how much I spend, I don't keep track but all is in reasonable for myself :) how much someone spend on this game is up to themself and their wallet.

I still go almost daily out for dinner and buy whatever I want for my family, meanwhile I enjoy my time.
We have our laptops, we have our Iphones and Ipad and we have a console game...

I give some money to some poor people who I see on the street, so let me ( us) enjoy our "hobby" you're entitled to your opinion, but before stating something, it is always good to know both sides of a story.

With the LTQ you can easily get for free high stat industructible units, you just have to play smart.

Furthermore, it's not about what you have in the end, but how much you enjoyed during the way..

i will almost be year for me... spending real money ...for me is relief from real life and work... each LTQ need at least 500 gem min.. and if you want heroic items it will be nearly 1500 gem which is not accurate.. i dont like spend gems on box event or epic bosses but some time if is good item bouncess there i go throw it two mountins or more .. in guild war i bought between 4 and 6 mountins ...

it is your money you do what ever you like ... about people who say they win all free ... i will say you have some kind of hacking system .. IN the END GREE are company with employs and need to pay salary SO they need money and i mean real money... so they will make you enjoy then

Drugs isn't a direct analogy, as drugs are harmful to your health. This is more like being a football fan. You can do that for free watching it on TV. You can do it for a small amount of money going to home games. Or you can do it for lots of money, flying around the country in first class following your team and hiring a private box at the ground.

Football fans and KA players have nothing to show for what they spend, other than having been entertained along the way

Hmmm effort/profit ratio to make and maintan KA is not even remotly balanced. 10$ is what KA is worth to me, if you feel like spending more dont let me stop you. Lets just hope that future of gaming is not based on money that will buy you better stats but on skills player have

Actually its more like gambling than football. Football doesn't use a random system of rewards reinforced by payouts to persuade people to keep playing. Gambling does. We're all in a Skinner's box here. The question is whether or not you think its worth it.

Also, KA - like gambling - can cause people to spend money they can't afford to spend in hope of hitting odds that are unlikely (and in the case of KA, may be secretly adjusted server side in response to gamer habits). So yeah, KA can be harmful to your health due to the same financial problems that gambling addicts face.

The argument is moot. Spending money to buy a game and spending money to win a game are different matters. It may be more logical to say 'spending money to win a game defeats the purpose of a game'. But comparing purchases of software with in-app purchases is just a bad comparison. They are completely different products.

Try telling every professional sports organization in the world this idea. In professional sports it is most often those who spend the most money win.

You're partially right, but mostly wrong.

Money in professional sports is an indirect factor determining the outcome. In this game money is a direct factor.

Anything in excessive quantities can be harmful to your health or social well-being. It doesn't have to be a drug. It can be anything.

I've spent exactly $0.00 however I've also spent a couple thousand gems. Gree gets paid by my presence in the game, but it doesn't come from my wallet.

Kjctnorris
05-04-2013, 11:18 AM
Excessive quantities is relative. I'm certain there are players who have a problem, but this holds true for just about anything. Spending money in any amount for any sort of entertainment can be and likely is viewed as wasteful by someone else.

glitters
05-04-2013, 12:02 PM
That "someone else" may deem it wasteful because they only see the expenditure but not the enjoyment derived from it.

Enjoyment is subjective. For things such as entertainment, the passer-by may not experience the enjoyment or may not find logic that such spending produces enjoyment which naturally leads them to think it is wasteful. They are merely judging from their own position; concerning their own income and preferences.

I've spent $30. I've bought $10 worth of gold to finish my BD 10 and also $20 worth of gems to try for the 10th tonic (which I did not get).

I've spent $0, but would never criticise anyone for how they spend their money - each to their own. The really big spenders do fascinate me however as I can't understand the motivation behind it. The football analogy is good but it doesn't quite follow, as if you are a football fanatic, your expenditure gets you a very different experience - a VIP booth, a night in a hotel etc. I can't see how spending megebucks in KA would make it all that different than for a free or light gem spender. I was thrilled when my mostly free guild got into the top 200 - I'm not sure it would have felt any different if i'd spent money and was fighting for a top 3 spot. not a criticism, just an observation :)

Apparently it is an order of magnitude more effective in attack than a dragon. I have debated many people over exactly how this may be. I still view this unit as the stupidest thing ever done by the developers.

There's no enjoyment to be got from cheating though.

oK so you crawled under the fence at a football game. And you made it almost to half time before they spotted you laying in the trash beneath the bleachers. They caught you, rubbed your face in the **** and then threw you out. Yes, you got one up on the honest fans :-DDD.

I'm not going to look at this thread again now so if you try some halfwit reply you'll only look like even more of a loser than you do already. :-D

I actually think it is quite like football. We are talking about enjoyment here. Spending $1000's of dollars to see you team lose will cause disappointment just as spending the money only to miss out on the top prize would.

In both cases whether it be your team winning or you getting the top prize in an event your enjoyment for the money spent will be much higher if you are on the winning side.

Also another similarity I make is seeing people walk out of the stadium 3/4 of the way through a game when it becomes obvious their team has no chance is much like the moment where people stop in an event when the realize they aren’t going to win

I played for maybe a year? for free and then spent $5 to win a good unit (at the time). Then spent $60 for war. Then $20 for LTQ, then $80 for war... So $165. I also have about 30 PS3 games that I bought and never played much of... I haven't turned on my $500 (?) PS3 in ages... For the PS2, I have probably 40 games. Same deal. I'm trying to rationalize my spending. But in the end, you spend what you think it's worth and what you can afford. I'm spending money equivalent to the time, energy, and thought I devote to the game (which is a hell of a lot ever since Wars came along). I'll spend more soon.

Seryna
05-05-2013, 06:27 PM
I've spent $80 to buy a mountain of gems with 20% sale. Used it for pve LTQ to get shadow knight that gives 2 upgrades at once. Also spent on one gem money building, some on other LTQs though not box or boss events, and a few on guild wars.
