If the event started at 2pm EST on Friday, shouldn't it have ended at 2pm EST today? That extra hour killed us in the end (among other issues). Thoughts?

Well first it should have Started at 3pm EST based on Admin's comment...but alas it started early. Doesn't mean it should end early as well.....

Timing is everything.

No problem with it. It ended exactly when the timer right in the middle of the screen said it would.
