That would be a BIG mistake on their part, since Gems is not a real item and has zero cost to make. I will buy more (3 mountains at $59.99= $179.98) which equals more spent if they have the 40% sale again. Other wise I will be buying 1 mountain at $99.99, as I am not spending $199.98 for 2 mountains (refuse to pay more and get less).

Definitely, also players that don't buy gems ever may be enticed to purchase gems with a discount that large. That's what happened to me. Saw the 40% and was like "ohhhh **** better get me a mountain" gems I never would've of gotten if the discount was not available. I'm sure there were many players in the same boat.

And of course like a crack fiend once we get a taste we tend to come back. Albeit some more than others. It's just smart business sense.

That stinks they didn't go 40% for the Wars. Well they just lost money from me.

What you forget is that they are forgoing 20% from the majority who will spend anyways. Anything they pickup at the margin will be lost on volume guys. Most of them would probably spend the same and get more and eventually wouldnt need to buy as much unless gem inflation gets worse. They probably have more people working on these issues than they do the code.
What I want to know is how do people afford it? I make a darn good salary yet can only sustain a few mountains here or there.
