Being a free player (in a camping guild) I'm curious getting an answer to the following question:
What was the highest position obtained in the war by a guild that was not using real money as part of the warfare?
Any ideas?

Maybe the better question is: what could have been the highest position by a guild that was not using real money as part of the warfare...
Roughly,
12 playing hours a day *
4 hits per hour *
5 days *
200 points per offensive win *
40 guild members =
1.9M points
plus 5% defensive wins =
2M points
Good for position 68 according to the winners list of the Battle for Dragon's Roost.

sparckle, try to say something useful.

Nice evaluation.

The Golden Horde came in at 208 and I do not think any of us spent money.

The evaluation is too optimistic. Free players play leisurely and won't be on for 12 hours per day. On average, each member may play for only 3-4 hours per day. About 600k points is a better estimate for a guild entirely made up of free players.

What are you talking about? Being a free player does not necessary mean you spend less time with the game.

Well sorry Mr Robot. Not everyone is the special kind of player like you who doesn't sleep or do anything productive, and babysits their device for 12+ hours a day.

You are correct that not every player does this. However, the OP wasn't asking about the average free guild's performance, but rather the best guild's performance. Something tells me the top free guild played more than 3-4 hours per day... But thanks for playing.

The OP was asking for the best free guild that competed in the CoK. Not the hypothetical best free guild possible. The one that competed still has inactive and leisurely players. Otherwise they would have scored at least 2 million CP and earned rank #68.

I played free and scored 90k personally, however others in guild used gems so we placed in the top 25 overall.

Keep in mind you need to hit walls, and scout targets. That's going to hurt the estimate a lot.

Used free gems when we could earn them.

Just curious, did anyone get dragged into a battle without declaring war?

You don't have to play twelve hours a day to participate in twelve battles. All you have to do is check in for a few minutes twelve different times. Five minutes is plenty time to go into the game, collect your buildings, then unload your four attacks on someone. So, you can fight twelve battles and only play for an hour.

Maybe I'm missing something, but don't you have to account for the time replenishing the health? Or is this estimate assuming you do battles 24h/day, being one offensive with 4 hits, and one defensive?

Steve_r is right, walls do matter a lot. So does the Def Leader.
Maybe the better question is: what could have been the highest position by a guild that was not using real money as part of the warfare...
Roughly,
4 hits per hour *
40 guild members =
160 hits per hour,
Corrected with 10 hits on the wall plus 10 on the Defense Leader =
140 hits per hour
12 playing wars a day *
5 days *
200 points per offensive win =
1.7M points
(instead of 1.9M)

All calculations are flawed. you do not fully regen after one hour. it's 1 health per minute, you have 100 health so to fully regen it would require 100 minutes. Players reading the calculations should also keep in mind that these are the most optimal numbers which is highly unlikely.
12 hours/day = 720 minutes = ~7.xx battles per day. For simplicity's sake, round it down to 7 battles per day
40 members x 4 hits = 160 hits x 200 points per hit x 7 battles per day x 5 days = 1,120,000 points
Then you can factor in the points accumulated by the defense leader.
So if all the stars align, then you have a shot of top 100. But more than likely it will not happen as many variables will not be optimal when it is time for battle. I actually would think a team that has absolutely no gem spenders should be celebrating if they reached top 200

Agreed. Top200 is fairly difficult to achieve for completely free guilds. As in, not sleeping for the event difficult. Keep in mind they don't have 300k+ defense leaders or mountains of gold to throw into the gbank for more members. Once the bonuses start hitting 25million a pop it becomes very very slow for free guilds.

Don't forget to account for DL hits and losses which could drop the hypothetical score 10-20%.

Again. The calculations are based on the most optimal environment. Such as never losing one battle, having all players on contributing, and receiving 200 points per battle won. Im sure that all players who participated in the last event knows that this is not the case
