When you do that, a clarification screen pops up explaining you will be demoted to Officer and asks if you are sure you want to do this. Seems accidentally falling on the button twice is a stretch. I hope Gree takes pity on you and your change of heart so you can get your syndicate back.

Good luck to you. I've emailed GREE regarding a different question about syndicates and they said that they don't interfere with syndicates.
