Why they bother with a sale ? Now everybody say they want gems - so no need to entice player purchase. Is basic economics, supply and demand. The demand is huge, thanks to all you poverty players cry you want gem sale. If you just be quiet, maybe Gree thinks they need a sale to stimulate more gem purchase. But now is ruined.
