View Full Version : Should a Warning Be Put on Gree Game ?

Bala82
03-11-2013, 01:38 PM
Relatively speaking this type of game is new to the scene and spending sporadic amounts of cash on a game is a new concept. Should there be a warning about possible addiction for these games? Obviously by law Gree have no obligation to do this but morally?

There are clearly some people on here that are lucky enough to have the disposable income but what about the others that get sucked into the moment and say to themselves "just one more vault" those vaults add up over time and before you know it you've spent hundreds on a game and have a fairly unhealthy addiction.

Thoughts?

Discuss i found this topic on MW fourm and thought i repost on here to see what people thought.

I considered myself a free player but during Christmas i was forced to buy a vault of gold to get my frosted snowman . I had no intention on ever purchase gold but after peer pressure on other players about how great previous limited gold building (Haunted mansion and turkey house) were worth it, i caved and bought it.

I say we take all the warning labels off everything and let nature take its course. Seriously, though... This is an idea so stupid only a tort lawyer could like it.

Please you chose to spend or not! Apple and Google stores reported combined sales of $7 Billion USD from their App stores in 2012. Games are a majority (at least 50%) of spend. Warning labels? What and kill the golden goose for Apple and Google....NOT!

When folks/freeloaders on this forum complain/criticize others for spending money on games they have got to realize how many billions are spent on games of pixels on a screen. Without them no games!

No one forced you to buy hardware to play CC...no one forced you to spend your hard earned money...and no one is going to force you to stop playing...unless you are under 18 of course.

Sounds like we'll have warning labels on food "Eat too much and you get Fat and Die" the list can go on. Enough! If you think game is bad for you morally then don't play!

The problem here is addiction, nothing more, nothing less. If you aren't addicted, you can easily control your spending. You don't need a warning label for something like that, just common sense.

The word addiction means a warning will be useless anyway , the warning may as well say ,WARNING you are going to spend all your money please enter your card details below.

I agree that it is addicting. I can admit I was. The best thing to happen to me was getting screwed by gree. Now I rarely buy gold!

By the way, as for a warning, there is a warning on cigarettes and people still try it and get hooked.

"...forced..."?
I've never spent a dime on Crime City, but I've always been tacitly grateful to the big spenders who do. They subsidized my entertainment. I feel the same way about the chumps who buy every piece of crap they see advertised in television commercials, like Axe body spray. I laugh and offer a silent "Thanks!" every time I fast-forward past another one of those thirty-second slices of nonsense.

I definitely spent way more than I ever intended on this silly game. There weren't even good social elements until recently. Its a little more compelling now that its more social.

I think the only warning that needs to be put on this game, or anything else for that matter is...

"Warning, someone who's parents didn't teach them how to be accountable for their actions, or has absolutely no common sense and/or analytical skills wants to put a warning on this product!"

Coldjoey
03-12-2013, 03:38 AM
I don't troll but I know this will sound like one. Bala the warning should be pasted on you. You used to say some crazy stuff and offer advice base on no knowledge or experience but just an idea. Then you started making valuable contributions, and I had even thought "wow! that's really good advise". But to say your peers had pressurised you in to spending money! That's what I would expect from a twelve year old. "I threw a stone at the train cause my mates did it" In truth you wanted to spend the money, then like the others you regretted spending the money and realised it made no difference to your game. Grow up, stop moaning and complaining and just enjoy the game.

You are entitled to your opinion coldjoey . Your example is for children, i am take you example apply to the real world of adults. Let say you get a share tip to invest in some share of a business but you decided not to and than you see people who took advantage of the share tip received some benefit so kick yourself and than couple month latter you get another tip but again you are not sure so you don't do anything and again player benefit and so another month pass and another share tip comes but this time you invest. This is adult peer pressure not kid's peer pressure. If you can't tell the difference than what can i say.

I missed opportunity with haunted mansion than i saw players on this forum brag about how it was a good investment and i felt bad and when turkey house came i just didn't think it was good investment and than player who bought said it was. When frosted snowman came you damn right i wasn't going let that opportunity pass.

Yet you whinge about it like a girl.

I think I understand your point - Gambling and addiction is a recognised issue in our society and it is an issue that exists online as well in games such as Crime City. Unfortunately just casinos, GREE can/will only do so much to protect those vulnerable. Ultimately, they are here to make a profit and will self regulate to the extent that it doesn't damage their business.

A warning label may be a good idea but who will enforce it? Enforcement of online gaming companies are I think only in its infancy and while a good point you raise, this is not the avenue for it. Go whinge about it to your local authority.

For those who are vulnerable to peer pressure or suffer from gambling problems, go seek professional help.

Otherwise, stop whinging about it here because we all want to get away from real life and you whinging about it just annoys everyone.

Go have a cry while I rob your hood.

Where do you see me whining ?Probably related to you maintaining that Gree, through the use of force made you buy a vault of gold. Unless its an outright lie (which, feel free to admit to), its very easy to read as whining.

Just because one player said the turkey house was a good investment you decided to buy gold? Look, who you listen to you is on you. There's a lot of advice around here - not all of it is good. It's not anyone's fault but your own that you listened to their advice, with or without understanding WHY they said it was a good investment. Many people that buy those LE buildings do it because they are cool status symbols; not for investment reasons.

Here are some quotes

Hey Bala, its a shame you didn't get the gobble gobble buffet's when they were available. Slightly controversial but for me they have been a great help for income. 8 hour collections means you need to be strong enough to repel most robberies, but my 2 lvl10 buffet's are giving me $313K each. They are ugly as hell but they have made the biggest difference to my income. If it comes up again next year, it may still be worth grabbing one or two.

Churches are a good buy. Even at level 1. They're around 4m the first upgrade.

The snow guys limited building are better as the income increases significantly but are an 8 hour building.

I trust both these members on advice, espically Ramshutu since he is a very knowledgeable :)

Your right it was upto to me but look advice i went for it :)

Bala, take some advice from Dip's signature.

Back on topic, IF there should be any warning on Gree games, it should be the same warning that other F2P/P2W games have sometimes included. A simple statement that the game is free to play and offers OPTIONAL in game purchases.

It doesn't seem necessary, but for people who like to argue in favour of unnecessary warnings, it seems to be good enough.

Only warning label should be...hackers/cheaters play and don't get banned...seriously ran across another guy over 150k stats, a whopping 200k iph, but somehow managed over 400 of the $12.5 mil planes (5 billion cash alone)...and all the top respect items EXCEPT for the explosives which they graciously have 0 of so far. Come on though the top scratcher gives 100k respect...top respect items for most categories require at least 3 million respect just to get 500. Get your **** together Gree and at least run scans on people because obviously the report player tab isn't available and have had no response on the people I've been reporting.

Yeah all games do, but the reason isn't that it's to big a problem for Gree...the problem is it would require working for their money and that's just too tough to sit behind a computer all day

Wtf are you talking about? Wasn't no glitch at all, only thing I've got are the m4a1 which a ton of people have. If I had billions of in game dollars I think I'd have better upgraded buildings and also better stats because I'd have bought top $ items. All I did was spend a crap ton on explosives which in turn CK mafia had fun destroying. Which is half the reason I had originally quit the game for 3-4 months

+1 ... Im not software savvy, so I dont know how difficult it is to stop hackers, but I do agree that not preventing it enough is a slap on the face for the paying players....

There is a better than even chance you're sexually attracted to young girls. Now run along and watch another episode of My Little Ponies. Brony.

If I had a young daughter who was interested in such programs, I would support her interests whether I liked them or not.

I know nothing about Dip's personal life, but to assume anything about someone you don't even know speaks more about your own character than it does theirs.

The whole pay to play mechanic's been with gaming long enough that the warning would be a little redundant. Yeah, it can be a slippery slope occasionally, but I doubt your average player would fall into the trap. Hope so at least. Way I figure if somebody's at risk of spending more money than they can afford here, they're just as likely to end up spending it elsewhere as recklessly regardless of a warning.
