How to complete the different ranks?

I see there is units that are unlocked by completing ranks like Captain and Black Ops ranks, how do you complete these ranks to unlock these units?

Attack players to earn battle points.
The little yellow circles with black target symbol is the battle points icon

Okay I've noticed those target symbols. How do I check to see what rank I am at and what I need for the next rank? Sorry for the n00bish questions, been playing this game for a while but just unsure of these ranks.

Click the rivals button and then the rankings tab
