Gree has started banning subnets which is causing numerous unbanned players to not access the forums.. I've run some forums, so I know what they're doing. They are doing the easy way of blocking players that can get a new IP each time they log on. The problem is, while they are blocking every IP that a banned person can get, they are blocking legit forum members.

Gree, Quit being lazy!!!!

Kinda funny, because everyone affected by this can't post to back me up...

It's not a proxie thing, it's a subnet thing.

You're IP might be 123.456.789.123 If I wanted to block your IP, I'd block 123.456.789.123 But if you rebooted and got 123.456.789.124, my ip ban didn't work.

So If I'm lazy, rather than blocking the IP you keep logging on with, I'd block 123.456.789.

Notice how I didn't add the last subnet? I just blocked quite of few Innocent bystanders, but stopped that one guy. LAZY!

Madhatter is that you?

If you say so, but the mods know exactly what I'm talking about. Why else am I blocked when accessing the forum from LTE, but can access just fine from wifi (different ISP). Especially when I've never logged on from LTE

Luciferian is also blocked from getting on the forums, as far as I can tell.

Yeah, temporary state of affairs.

I hope that doesn't mean that the IP ban was temporary until they can sort out a permanent account ban for us miscreants and trouble makers.

I hope you realise I had cold sweats and the shakes from not being able to find out exactly how the CK thread worked out.

Yes it's quiet. Some of it good as some of the folks that always spit lemons that the rest of us ignored or tried to make lemonade out of are strangely quiet. Good with bad tradeoff. I bet they'll be back unfortunately

Nah, I mean the sub-level IP bans are temporary until we can get a couple of other things into place. It's a crappy sledgehammer-to-crack-walnut approach. No sense making things difficult for a bunch of legit posters, and I apologize for the inconvenience in the meantime.

It's not a proxie thing, it's a subnet thing.

Or... its a proxy thing.

Some ISPs put all their traffic through just one or two proxies, so all of their customers show up as just one or two IP origins. AOL used to do this, so back in the early days when everyone was still using AOL, about 5% of the Internet showed up as just one origin IP.

In any case, not all that many people use this forum, so it's unlikely that you would happen to be on the same IP or subnet as a forum spammer, here.

Unless...... OMG!! We've traced the spam, maam! The spam is coming from INSIDE THE HOUSE!!

If they ban you, I'm quitting.

We've never interacted, but seeing your lovely icon in any thread brightens my day.

I remember when geolocation was new, and trolls all over the internet were (wrongly) doxxing people as residents of Virginia, since that's where AOL's IP address was registered.

Maybe the small IP's still do, but not the bigger ones. Funny bringing AOL into the conversation. Seriously! Funny!
