Social Promotion?

So I have been doing the camper thing. I concentrate on collecting my money, building up the levels of my buildings. I've doing events on the theory that is the way to get some potent weapons. Occasionally I do some PvP just because I am mean and onery.

Anyway I am puttering along when I notice that I was getting close to leveling up. I raid someone and am suprised that I am 1 point short of leveling up. Then when I log in the next day I get a notice that I have made the next level. For whatever reason the system gave me the extra point I needed to get to the next level. (No. I did not have points lying on the screen that got posted when I logged off.)

Were you attack and won against a rival ?

Did somebody attack you and lose? When another player attacks you and you win the fight, I'm pretty sure you get 1XP for the win. If you were only one point away from the next level, this would only need to happen once for you to level up.
