My first gold purchase in MW came after I joined forum. I saw all these people with boost units from collect 10 and figured out very quickly that most had been obtained by using gold. I wanted them too so I began buying a little gold here and there to win those events. Then I thought about gold money buildings... Had to have those too.

Then the Epic Boss events arrived with these great uber units and I wanted them too. So I started buying a vault here and there. That along with collect 10 events, some crates and LEs turned into multiple vaults so I would eligible for the bonus gold.

I am happy to say that as of a months ago, I wrote my last check to my Credit Card company that will ever go to Gree. I was never a heavy spender and never spent enough to compromise my lifestyle or family....but definitely more than I ever should have done. I never spent more than i could afford to throw away as I rationalized it in my mind as no different than entertainment value i get from blowing money at local bar or casino.

As of week or so ago, I depleted the last of the Gree gold I will ever see and I feel great about it. I fought the urge to play factions as I knew it would require gold. Turns out....lots of gold!

This isn't a boycott thread or anything like that. I'm not belittling anyone for spending. Seems many have money to literally burn. Lol! I am not telling you to stop spending on these games. Do with your money anything that makes you happy. Just keep in mind it is just a game and there will always be promotions and incentives to make you want to spend. All I want to pass along is ....think twice before you so quickly get caught up in the moment and hit the "buy" button.

You are not the first one to realize and understand the reality. Others will follow, but a big part will not realize it.

Money is for the majority not something off which they have plenty. I am happy for the ones that have plenty.... I would say: enjoy the game and have fun. For small spenders, i feel pitty because it really is a game and we really want get anything back for it irl.

I hope you still can or learn to enjoy the game without real money. Good luck.

Hear hear BD! There will always be players who will spend big bucks on this game and no doubt for them they can afford it. Spend within your means and like you say think twice before hitting that buy button!

Thanks for sharing BigD@wg! For having the wisdom and courage to tell it like it is.
Oops...FFP has told you that many times before!

It's easy to convince yourself that the money you spend on gold, would only be spent on some other form of entertainment. Like many, I've bought more than a few vaults. After you get a few of those big ticket items, or beat a boss, you want more. It becomes almost addictive. Sometimes I see people with huge amounts of gold units and wonder if they have a credit card maxed out, making payments on gold . It's an instant gratification to get that new le set, or 10th item, or special building. Our competetive nature only makes it worse. "That guy got it, so will I!" I feel guilty after I think about the money I spent that could have been used to but something useful. Just remember, no matter how much you buy, someone else will always buy more, and still be stronger than you.

I don't see how people can justify buying all of this gold. I would buy gold if it was 1/10th of the price it is now.

Over the last year, I've probably spent $300 on gold. Tax refund a hundred or so, few more here and there... It's my money.. And I got no family, my bills are paid..and I enjoy this... So why not, I figured. Recognizing that GREEd placed that 10th open box right outta reach UNLESS you spent the gold.. That LAST epic boss,Just outta reach without gold. I see that.. And accepted it.. But this is getting outta hand. I think I'm Gonna stop throwing fuel on their fire. Gold purchases just Encourage them to think ONLY in terms of more ways to get gold purchases from us. No thought whatsoever to the free players who play daily, and drive up the web traffic to this site and game... Which does indeed benefit GREEd.. So, that's my thoughts on it. I mean,heck...Brazil CLEARLY rolled out w/o enough testing... Why, spark gold purchases, that's way. Thx.

I was lucky that my credit card payment wasn't processed until after the event....I believe that you can play this event without gold and still get great prizes. The catch is you need people, a full roster, of great people who want to sacrifice a bit of their time for the good of the faction. I don't know if you have ever played ValorHD, but this was getting close to the same brother and sisterhood.

I hear ya Big D@wg

Unfortunately I am still a gold addict. Haven't finished the 12 step program to wean myself off of it.

I first started playing when a coworker told me he had been playing and his wife deleted the application because he was tempted to spend too much and buy gold.

I creeped into it... just a little here and a little there.

Have to admit it's my cash sink at the moment.

Imagine me showing up at a recovery meeting and saying...

I am a gold buyer (instead of my name is xxx and I am an alchoholic )

I completely understand. The psychology of it is no different than any other addiction. If you are to the point of having doubts about the spending then you will eventually make yourself stop. The spending cycle can be broken. Just have to focus on other things.

If you want to continue to play the game, then set goals that don't involve gold. My goal is back to upgrading buildings and farming loot. No gold needed for that :)

I'm sure it's been discussed before, but search function is failing me. How much real world cash, cumulatively, have the highest of rollers individually spent on this game (e.g., Ferr and PUN types)? Figure it's a lot, but can't be more than 5 figures... right?!?

I don't know if anyone has truly ever given a number....Could have and I just never saw it. But realistically, knowing what some people have done in this game, more than 5 figures doesn't seem improbable.

I spent $500 on this game so far as of September 2012, and I glad I swore not to buy anymore gold after that 10 items event when I chased and didn't get the 10th part for 3 days.

I've been playing for several months now for free but have always wanted that composites building. So, I purchased my first bit of gold during the B4B 40% off sale. Now that I have some extra gold left over, I can feel the urge to use it with the ends of buying more for something else, and something else..... Fortunately I have a fair bit of will power, and will be staying at my remaining 80 gold until I feel its it truly needed, knowing that I will probably never buy gold again. But, don't get me wrong, I have enjoyed this game for a while, and will continue to for some time. A bit of $$ going to the developers of a good (albeit a very very buggy) game is, in the end, good karma.

I wonder if Gree would actually make more money by slashing gold prices. I'd imagine 90% of their money comes from the big spenders ($1000+), so us little guys have no hope.

Just some, you're not even in the ballpark. I alone have spent more than that.

I'm not asking as it is none of business, but am very curious as to the dollar amounts the top spenders like you and few others have spent. I can always speculate :)

I'd say yes!! If you sold a bottle of water for $100 and sold 10, then sold it for $1 and sold millions you would make more!!!
Selling to the masses would always make more!

Big d@wg I haven't spent any gold but I have devoted a lot of time and in some respects that is more precious. I suspect there are lots who have spent and regret it and some who clearly don't which is fine. You can eek out an existence playing for free but it takes time and focus. factions help and whilst you'll never win without gold having a great team makes a difference.

I just started playing Modern War and have so far enjoyed it. However, I quickly discovered what you guys know all too well. If you don't spend real money, you go nowhere in this game. I have no problem tossing a few dollars to the game for a boost or to get over a hurdle, but to make it mandatory? No thanks. I know it won't go anywhere, but I wrote Gree a letter explaining my decision to quit the game. I am currently playing Clash of Clans. It is very similar to this game in many respects, and you can also drop serious money there. But you don't have to. That makes all the difference to me. There are many, many apps out there to keep me happy. Take note Gree. Sometimes less = more.
