You do know the origin or Donner Kebabs don't you? Most ppl think they originated in the eastern mediterranean. In Turkey or the Mesopotamia region of Europe. The story of Donner Kebabs may be far different though.

In actually fact the story might have originated in America in the mid 19th century. It could have involved a large number of ppl travelling from Missouri to California. To cut a long story short; it is speculated they got trapped in the Sierra Nevada mountains in the winter of 1846-47. They became hungry!

After running out of food, a small group of survivors attempted to cross the mountains to California and seek a rescue mission for those left behind. Unfortunately, only a handful of the group made it to California. When they finally crossed back over the mountains to the remaining survivors in February 1847, there were a lot less than they had counted leaving months before. No one really knows why their numbers dropped so dramatically while the rescue mission was away...

...but every time I walked into a Kebab shop in the Old Kent Road in South London, I always thought of those poor people in the winter of 1846-47.
